Cruz Seeking Big Payday After Breakthrough Season

by John Fennelly on February 10th, 2012 at 7:24 am

The Giants will undoubtedly have a slew of players looking for a raise. That’s what winning does. WR Victor Cruz is one of them, but GM Jerry Reese is taking a pragmatic approach to the offseason – as always.

We’re in the early stages of our evaluating the team as a whole, individually,” Reese told reporters yesterday. “We have not yet discussed anything with respect to salaries.”

When asked if expects a run on his office with salary demands, Reese spun it as spoils of war.

“That’s a good problem to have. You win the Super Bowl and if everybody thinks they’re the reason we won – that’s a good problem to have. That means you won it. It’s just part of the offseason. There are always contract issues in the offseason. That’s what the offseason is. You have to deal with contracts and things with your roster – who’s going to stay, who’s going to go. Again, we’re in the very early stages of the evaluation process…”

Say Hello to the Bad Guy: You are Now Watching the Throne (Maybe).

by Dan Orlando on January 19th, 2012 at 6:38 pm

So what has me agitated this evening? For a while my biggest issue with this matchup was knowing that Aaron Ross was once again going to opt to wear those ugly white cleats that make him look like an extra on Saved By The Bell.

I thought about getting desperate, reaching down into my soul, and ranting about how game time beer commercials have gone from hilarious to ridiculous. At no point have I ever turned to a male friend and lectured him on the quality of his light beer choice.

When your buddy buys a VW Beetle because he likes how Katy Perry sounds on the stereo system, then you say something. When your buddy is late to the bar because he’s still in line at a Snooki book signing you douse him in lighter fluid, light a match, and then you sure as Hell say something. Priorities, people.

It’s Time for People to Take the NY Giants Seriously, Like 1990

by Dr. Football on January 18th, 2012 at 8:13 pm

By Dr. Bill Chachkes-Managing Partner/Executive Editor Football Reporters Online-Special to GFB

The Giants are one win away from another Super bowl appearance. Let’s let that statement sink in for a moment. The team that few if any gave a chance to in August, September, October, November & December….is again making noise in January, much like the 2007 Giants.

Or are they more like the 1990 Giants?

Today during the NFC Championship press conference, Giants head coach Tom Coughlin spoke of history. He was the wide receivers coach for the 1990 Giants that won Super Bowl 25: “A lot of our players are aware of history, but that was a long time ago”

It can be said that much like the 1990 & 2007 Giants teams, this year’s Giants are “hitting their stride” at the right time.  Even with what seemed to be an “officiating bias” against them, they have persevered, thrived on the controversy of spotty play at times, and ill-timed injuries at others.

It seemed like the TV networks and the league wanted a Saints vs. Packers title game. That didn’t happen. Instead we have a rematch of the 1990 battle by the bay.

Say Hello to the Bad Guy: Sorry I’m So Awesome

by Dan Orlando on January 9th, 2012 at 5:29 pm

If you had pulled me aside last June, and said to me that the New York Football Giants would be playing in the Divisional Round of the playoffs, I quite possibly would have slapped you.

Say Hello to the Bad Guy: Eli and Friends Thwart Dr. Killdrive’s Quest for World Domination

by Dan Orlando on January 9th, 2012 at 7:57 am

I would like to sincerely thank Mr. Kevin Gilbride. You sir have risen from the ashes of my defeat and given me immeasurable hope. Because of you Giants Nation can rejoice in the knowledge that I, Mr. Bad Guy am not in fact dead.

You may have thought I was getting weak. I wouldn’t blame you. The last post I wrote while watching QVC and hemming your sister’s skirt. I was overflowing with joy; straight up giddy in fact. Sue me.

But I took a long look in the mirror this morning. I wiped the smile from my face. No points allowed on defense? Great, that’s their job isn’t it? Eli throws 3 TDs and the rushing attack combines for over 100 yards? Good to know. But those first couple drives? C’mon KillDrive are you serious?

Tyree Likes What He Sees in These Giants

by John Fennelly on January 7th, 2012 at 10:03 am

David Tyree is a New York Giants legend. He was a solid player for the team on both offense and special teams for six seasons, but it will always be one play that personifies his Giants’ career: his amazing, acrobatic catch in Super Bowl XLII.

Yesterday, he was at TIMEX visiting his old team, which is about to make a another run at the Super Bowl from the Wild Card chute. Tyree was asked if this current Giants squad reminded him at all of the team that went on that magical run four years ago…

“Honestly, there were just so many points to this season, some moments that make you say ‘hmm’…Even the similarities of the Patriot game between our Patriot game in ’07 in the Super Bowl, the Jake Ballard catch, I believe the score when they played Green Bay was the same score that they lost to New England. So it’s is a lot of cool little markers that you can look at that kind of get you wondering and excited. But more importantly, the New York Giants are playing their best football going into the playoffs.”

The Giants have some new stars, such as DE Jason Pierre-Paul and WR Victor Cruz, who have never been to the postseason, but Tyree doesn’t believe that will matter much.
