Giants’ WR Victor Cruz wasted no time cashing in on his shooting star. The Blue’s salsa sensation, who has become a highly marketable commodity after bursting out with monster season, has announced he has signed with the international talent mega-agency IMG Worldwide.
From the Hollywood Reporter….
With NFL success, comes endorsement deals and other money-making ventures. And so it is that Victor Cruz, a wide receiver for the Super Bowl-winning New York Giants, has just been signed with IMG Worldwide, an agency specializing in sports, fashion and media.
IMG, which also represents Gisele Bunchen, aka Mrs. Tom Brady, announced the Cruz deal the day after his team’s victory against Brady and the New England patriots.
“I’m very pleased to be represented by IMG,” Cruz said in a statement Monday. “They have a great reputation around the world. They have represented some of the most iconic athletes across a myriad of sports and I am honored to be among them.”

So what has me agitated this evening? For a while my biggest issue with this matchup was knowing that Aaron Ross was once again going to opt to wear those ugly white cleats that make him look like an extra on Saved By The Bell.
I thought about getting desperate, reaching down into my soul, and ranting about how game time beer commercials have gone from hilarious to ridiculous. At no point have I ever turned to a male friend and lectured him on the quality of his light beer choice.
When your buddy buys a VW Beetle because he likes how Katy Perry sounds on the stereo system, then you say something. When your buddy is late to the bar because he’s still in line at a Snooki book signing you douse him in lighter fluid, light a match, and then you sure as Hell say something. Priorities, people.

The Giants are one win away from another Super bowl appearance. Let’s let that statement sink in for a moment. The team that few if any gave a chance to in August, September, October, November & December….is again making noise in January, much like the 2007 Giants.
Or are they more like the 1990 Giants?
Today during the NFC Championship press conference, Giants head coach Tom Coughlin spoke of history. He was the wide receivers coach for the 1990 Giants that won Super Bowl 25: “A lot of our players are aware of history, but that was a long time ago”
It can be said that much like the 1990 & 2007 Giants teams, this year’s Giants are “hitting their stride” at the right time. Even with what seemed to be an “officiating bias” against them, they have persevered, thrived on the controversy of spotty play at times, and ill-timed injuries at others.
It seemed like the TV networks and the league wanted a Saints vs. Packers title game. That didn’t happen. Instead we have a rematch of the 1990 battle by the bay.

If you had pulled me aside last June, and said to me that the New York Football Giants would be playing in the Divisional Round of the playoffs, I quite possibly would have slapped you.

I would like to sincerely thank Mr. Kevin Gilbride. You sir have risen from the ashes of my defeat and given me immeasurable hope. Because of you Giants Nation can rejoice in the knowledge that I, Mr. Bad Guy am not in fact dead.
You may have thought I was getting weak. I wouldn’t blame you. The last post I wrote while watching QVC and hemming your sister’s skirt. I was overflowing with joy; straight up giddy in fact. Sue me.
But I took a long look in the mirror this morning. I wiped the smile from my face. No points allowed on defense? Great, that’s their job isn’t it? Eli throws 3 TDs and the rushing attack combines for over 100 yards? Good to know. But those first couple drives? C’mon KillDrive are you serious?

David Tyree is a New York Giants legend. He was a solid player for the team on both offense and special teams for six seasons, but it will always be one play that personifies his Giants’ career: his amazing, acrobatic catch in Super Bowl XLII.
Yesterday, he was at TIMEX visiting his old team, which is about to make a another run at the Super Bowl from the Wild Card chute. Tyree was asked if this current Giants squad reminded him at all of the team that went on that magical run four years ago…
“Honestly, there were just so many points to this season, some moments that make you say ‘hmm’…Even the similarities of the Patriot game between our Patriot game in ’07 in the Super Bowl, the Jake Ballard catch, I believe the score when they played Green Bay was the same score that they lost to New England. So it’s is a lot of cool little markers that you can look at that kind of get you wondering and excited. But more importantly, the New York Giants are playing their best football going into the playoffs.”
The Giants have some new stars, such as DE Jason Pierre-Paul and WR Victor Cruz, who have never been to the postseason, but Tyree doesn’t believe that will matter much.

As the first ever playoff game in MetLife Stadium draws nearer, comparisons are swirling regarding the 2011 squad’s resemblance to the World Champion 2007 Giants team. For the most part, I too can see the resemblance.
Just like in the summer of ‘07, the Giants weren’t expected to make much noise this season. After making quick free agent splashes with top UDFA Mark Herzlich and C David Baas, Big Blue found itself sitting idly by as other teams stole headlines and marquee names.
GM Jerry Reese was under serious fire before a single preseason snap was played. Two of Eli’s top targets, Steve Smith and Kevin Boss, were allowed to quietly walk out the door and in one case into the arms of the franchise’s most hated rival. Ahmad Bradshaw too was almost not retained, but a pay cut taken by Brandon Jacobs led to his return.
After a season staggered with disappointing losses to lesser opponents (including opening day), the Giants appear to have hit their stride in the closing two weeks. In Week 16 of 2007, it was the Bills that the Giants surged past to clinch a playoff berth and in 2011 they would step on the throats of a free falling Gang Green.
I agree there are similarities, but there is also one alarming difference. Earth, Wind, and Fire is no more. In 2008, Brandon Jacobs teamed with Derrick Ward to amass over 2,000 yards on the ground. The pair was so effective that Ahmad Bradshaw barely even saw the field during the entire campaign despite playing a major roll in the previous post-season success of the franchise.

While Earth, Wind, and Fire are no longer united, perhaps this trio could serve as musical inspiration for the NYG rushing attack. Photo Courtesy: Dailycaller.com
This year, a less effective offensive line and dinged up RBs have hampered Big Blue. The good news, Eli Manning has managed to counter the lack of balance by putting on a passing clinic. He has racked up 4,933 passing yards in 16 games. After publicly claiming that he was in Tom Brady’s class, Manning backed up his words by finishing just 67 yards shy of 5,000. His 15 4th quarter TD’s broke an NFL record that was previously held by big brother Peyton.

Giants’ WR Victor Cruz was a nobody not too long ago. Now’s he’s a somebody and the Atlanta Falcons are devising ways to slow him down this week. No one has succeeded thus far, but not from a lack of trying.
Cruz is always looking to take it to the house. His 25 plays of 20 or more yards and his nine plays of 40 or more are second only to Detroit’s Calvin Johnson this season.
“I think anytime I get a chance to get the ball, I want to make the big play,” Cruz declared. “Whether it be a deep route or an intermediate route, I am just trying to do the most I can with that catch or route.”
The Falcons will have their hands full with not only Cruz, but with the Giants’ passing game in general. New Orleans chewed them up for 45 points only few weeks ago…
“They are playing great football and when you look at the number, almost 1,600 yards for Cruz and for (Hakeem) Nicks almost 1,200 yards,” said Atlanta head coach Mike Smith yesterday. “That is 2, 800 yards between those two and you would be hard-pressed to find another tandem that has those types of numbers. They do create matchup issues for you and Eli does a very good job of reading the defense and getting the ball distributed to those guys. They are very explosive and that is the thing that is evident if you look at the plays. They have had 71 plays of 20 yards or more this season so they are a top 10 team in terms of creating those plays.”
Giants’ QB Eli Manning on his chemistry with Cruz:
“It’s a great credit to Victor. He’s worked extremely hard learning this offense. We did get together a good bit this offseason, just going, talking over things and during the season just continuing to grow, talk during training camp about different coverages, talking together during the week to make sure we’re on the same page of how we’re going to read things. He’s done a good job of getting open, having an understanding of getting open in a zone, beating man coverage, all of those things. He’s done a great job making plays, on some short throws, making guys miss and doing a lot of the work on his own.”
