Giants’ QB Eli Manning doesn’t seem too concerned about not throwing a TD pass this preseason. He is approaching a critical year in his career, having thrown 25 INTs in 2010 – a trend that many thought could not continue in 2011. Last night, Manning was out of synch again with his young WR corps, overthrowing them on several occasions and forcing passes into tight spots. He threw two INTs in very 2010-like fashion (off his back foot while under pressure) that had fans shaking their heads and wondering. “Easy E” says no worries:
I’m fine. No one ever counts how many touchdown passes you’ve thrown in preseason. It’s one of those where you’re on limited scouting time and you’re out there running plays. We had some opportunities, there were some big plays out there – a fade to Mario [Manningham], a go-route to Mario that we missed on. We just have to get sharp on those things and the touchdowns will come.

Rex Ryan calls Met Life stadium the home of the Jets. Justin Tuck says will still be seen asGiants Stadium. Santonio Holmes and other Jets beg to differ with Tuck. The argument goes on and on and on. The debate as to who owns the town has grown louder in recent years between the Jets, the Giants, and their fans. The reality is, who cares? Both have more important issues and teams to deal with than each other.

The Giants will not practice today, which is supposed to be nice day here in New York City. That cannot be said for tomorrow or Sunday when a Category 1 hurricane is scheduled to barrel into the Northeast and drop more unneeded rain on us.
The game between the Giants and the Jets, originally set for 7pm tomorrow has been moved up to 2pm. Giants’ CEO John Mara said it was “the right thing to do”. Can’t argue with him there. Folks here were freaked out on Tuesday when a 5.8 magnitude earthquake rattled the Big Apple sending thousands into the streets. With the tenth anniversary of the Sept 11 attacks just two weeks away, New Yorkers were already on edge…
Giants coach Tom Coughlin said he had not been keeping up with the news about the weather but had planned on catching up quickly. He also said the first team would at around “30-35″ plays in tomorrow’s game.
On the injury front, RB Ahmad Bradshaw did not practice yesterday. Coughlin said he took a knee in the back and needed some extra time. He also said he was not concerned. Brandon Jacobs will start with Danny Ware and Da’Rel Scott getting reps in as well. Andre Brown was sick yesterday and missed practice. His status is unknown at this time.
New CB Brian Williams hit the field running yesterday. He TD reporters he was “thankful” to be a Giant. Coughlin said he will play some tomorrow but needs more reps to be fully integrated into the defense.
Antrel Rolle got some more looks as corner yesterday….K Lawrence Tynes is still not ready to return. No set timetable on him….QB David Carr will play vs the Jets, not Sage Rosenfels, who has been battling a strep infection. This does not bode well for Rosenfels since Carr has looked particularly sharp this summer…
Coughlin said he would like to see more production out of WR Mario Maningham this preseason….the coach explained that WR Victor Cruz did not run the wrong route causing him to get chewed out by Kevin Gilbride on Monday. It was a culmination of a series of things such as the speed and the depth of the route that ticked off the OC…

The Giants defeated the Chicago Bears 41-13 at NMS on Monday night. Tom Coughlin met the media afterward.
“Well we played better and we improved tonight. We had a lot of big plays in the game. I was glad to see so many guys make strong contributions. The blocked punt, the fourth down play by Cruz, with Hixon, David Carr played well tonight. Defensively, we did a good job pretty much all the way through against there ones. A lot of guys made strong contributions on special teams. I think, especially in the first half, we had a lot of big hits on kick-off coverage–Devin Thomas, naturally, as we saw, had some outstanding kick-returns. It was very well blocked. We’re very pleased with that part of it; very disappointed in the injuries that occurred. That’s the part of the game that just makes you shake your head. You extend the play time a little bit to take full advantage of the fact that we literally had no off-season and a very small preseason, very short preseason. So, we extended a little bit of play time tonight and we did have some guys that got nicked up. I don’t have a whole lot of information on that, but I do know that Terrell was an ACL.”

Beautiful night in the NY Metro area. A great night for just about anything.
Inactive for the game tonight: DE Osi Umenyiora (knee), DB Prince Amukamara (foot), K Larwence Tynes (quad), WR Darius Reynaud (hamstring), CB Brian Jackson (hip) and QB Sage Rosenfels (illness).
Some highlights from the first half: Brandon Jacobs‘ 19-yard TD run on an audible by Eli Manning. The Giants played to their strength there. The Manning pedigree making a snap decision at the line and utilizing the power of Jacobs vs the Bears’ weak side.
Rookie LB Greg Jones blocked a punt on 4th and 1 on the Bears’ 47, then picked it up and rumbled down to the 8. Two plays later, David Carr hit Domenik Hixon in the right corner of the end zone for a score. Hixon made a leaping grab over the defender and got both feet down. He’s just been money this preseason.
Rhys Lloyd is 2/2 on his FG attempts. Matt Dodge hit a 63-yard punt.
The Giants have one sack: by LB Jonathan Goff….Devin Thomas had a 73-yard kickoff return.
Lowlights: JPP does not have a tackle; the TEs do not have a catch and Jerrel Jernigan has 4 total yards on three punt return attempts….

GM Jerry Reese may not want to admit to feeling a little bit of pressure, but after the Philadelphia Eagles performance last night the Giants have to step up their level of play.
The fan base is becoming restless with the lack of moves made this offseason. Couple that with the loss of key players from last years team and optimism is waning for Giants’ fans. These preseason games are the perfect opportunity for the Giants’ young players to prove themselves and showcase their talents.
Reese has put the fate of the team in the hands in these younger players and has been pitching the idea that they are as talented as anyone the organization has lost or could have obtained in free agency.
Therefore, veterans such as Eli Manning and Justin Tuck must elevate the Giants’ first team offense and defense respectively. It is their job to make sure the young players are up to speed when they take the field Saturday night. If for some reason the offense fails to put points on the board or the defense allows a quick score Giants’ fans everywhere will erupt.
Ownership, management, coaches, and players seem have faith in what the team can accomplish this season, but it will take a lot more than just the words of Jerry Reese to put the fans at ease. It is time to prove that the Giants didn’t need to over pay for any of these free agents and that there is enough in house to once again contend for a Championship.
The Giants will be under the microscope all season and the first opportunity to quash some of the doubters will come Saturday night versus the Carolina Panthers.

THE GIANTS WILL FACE THE RAVENS TOMORROW NIGHT IN BALTIMORE
With wins against the Panthers (17-12) and Redskins (23-3), the Ravens are 2-0 to start the preseason. The defense turned in an impressive performance a week ago against Washington, forcing four turnovers and knocking quarterback Donovan McNabb out of the game with an ankle injury. A lot is expected from Baltimore this year, but before fans get too excited about the quick start, keep in mind that the Ravens were 4-0 in the preseason last year, and went on to a 9-7 regular season record, a disappointment to some, though they did beat the Patriots in the playoffs before losing to the Colts the following week.
The Ravens are one of NFL’s best run organizations. Led by GM Ozzie Newsome and head coach John Harbaugh, the team drafts as well as anyone, and the organization is solid from top to bottom. The defense carried Baltimore to a Super Bowl win in 2001. In 2010, the offense has the potential to be one of the league’s best, while the defense was third best in the NFL in 2009.
The Ravens are led on offense by quarterback Joe Flacco, running back Ray Rice, and wide receivers Anquan Boldin and Derrick Mason. Donte’ Stallworth, who is returning after a one-year suspension, and Mark Clayton provide depth in the receiving corps. Center Matt Birk anchors a strong offensive line. Todd Heap is back at tight end, but the team did draft Ed Dickson in the third round and Dennis Pitta in the fourth round to learn from the veteran. Willis McGahee will get the call in short-yardage situations.
