John K. Mara - CEO/President, New York Giants

“Just so I don’t suffer the same fate Terry Bradshaw suffered two weeks ago, let me acknowledge and introduce the real boss of the franchise, my mother, Ann Mara.”

“The New York Giants are proud to represent the greatest city in the world, and the great state of New Jersey and to bring home the Vince Lombardi trophy to the most loyal fans in all of sport.”

“This is a team that we are all very proud of. Not only for what they accomplished on the field, but for the way they conduct themselves off the field.”

“Thank you, Giant fans, for your unwavering support for so many years. This world championship belongs as much to you as it does to any of us. Thank you.”

Steve Tisch – Chairman/EVP, New York Giants

“I think it’s appropriate that I introduce the other boss – my mother, Joan Tisch.”

“I would also like to acknowledge my sister Laurie and my brother, Jon.”

“What a great day for the Tisch and the Mara families. I haven’t asked the mayor yet, but I think we should do this every Tuesday.”

“We do have the best fans in the world. There’s a group of guys down in Dallas that call themselves ‘America’s Team’ (boos). Looking out at all of you and the millions of people who are in the streets today, we’re ‘America’s Dream’.”

“Thank all of you. We had a circuitous road to get to the Super Bowl, and we made it very dramatic. But we’re the New York Giants, so why wouldn’t we…”

“Our fans mean the world to us. Our team plays for our fans. Coach (Tom) Coughlin not only coaches the best football players in the country, but he has all of you and the team has all of you in their heart every Sunday.”

“To the greatest fans in the world, in the greatest city in the world, thank you”

The Giants did not sleep much Sunday night. How could they? The high from the Super Bowl win kept the adrenaline at peak levels.

Today the team will be received by the City of New York in tickertape parade up the Canyon of Heroes in Lower Manhattan. SNY will be covering it live beginning at 10:45 am.

Yesterday morning, Head coach Tom Coughlin and SB XLVI MVP Eli Manning met the media one more time in Indianapolis.

Coughlin was asked what traits his team possesses that allow them to finish so well….

“Mental toughness, resiliency, resolve,” he stated. “We keep playing, we keep fighting, and we’re highly competitive. We do have great trust in each other, great belief that we can finish, and that if we keep playing one play at a time as hard as we can go that we will find a way to win…”

The question of legacy continues to come up, but Coughlin has developed a canned answer for those inquiries…

“No, I don’t really think about that stuff, to be honest with you. It’s not about me and this is what we talk about all the time. We’re about team, we’re not about individuals. We’re about the team and what’s in the best interest of our team, and we feel that all our power is generated from team. We’re certainly very cognizant of some of the superior individuals that we have on our team, thank goodness, but it is the team that provides us with our strength, and our ability to perform under pressure, whether it is good or bad, and that’s the way we think.”

Coughlin, who has has one year remaining on his contract, was asked if he would be back as the team’s head coach he didn’t hesitate.

“I certainly hope so. My intentions are to be that way. I do have some ownership that has to give approval, but I’m looking forward to it.”

Manning was asked about the last tim he has bragging rights over his brother Peyton….

“This isn’t about bragging rights. This is a lot bigger. This is about a team, an organization being named world champions, and that was the ultimate goal. That’s the only thing that’s important, is the team finding a way to get a victory. That’s the only thing I care about and Peyton and I both know that’s what the goal is every year. It’s not about anything else.”

Sidebar: SB XLVI was the most-watched show in the history of television.

From Geico SportsNite: Wide receiver Mario Manningham, who had the biggest catch of his career in Super Bowl XLVI; Also ncludes comments from DE Dave Tollefson and S Antrel Rolle.

Giants’ WR Mario Manningham’s promising NFL career has been one that has been held back by incessant ailments and inconsistent performances. This year, he almost became an afterthought with both Hakeem Nicks and Victor Cruz having monster seasons.

Last night, with the Patriots pulling out all the stops to neutralize Cruz and struggling to keep up with the prolific Nicks, Mario made the best of the opportunities QB Eli Manning presented him with. His 38-yard reception on 1st-and 10 from the Giants’ 12-yard-line with 3:46 remaining jumpstarted the Giants’ game-winning drive.

“On the sideline they were going like this (gesturing a successful catch), so I knew I was in. It was a perfect throw,” Mario said. “They rolled into cover-two at the last minute and I saw the corner was acting like he was going to backpeddle, but he came up to play cover-two and I extended to the side a little bit and worked him outside. Eli (Manning) just put the ball on the money. Great pass protection, great ball. I knew where I was on the sideline. I knew I didn’t have that much room. Good thing I wear (shoe size) 11s, because if I wore 11.5s, I don’t think I’d have been in.”

Manning described the play, which will be remembered as the turning point of the game…..

“They were in cover-2. Usually that is not your match-up. They had us covered pretty well to the right. I looked that way. I saw I had the safety cheated in a little bit and threw it down the sideline. Great catch by him (Manningham), keeping both feet in. That’s a huge play in the game right there; when you’re backed up, to get a 40-yard gain and get to the middle of the field. That way we can pace ourselves a little bit, run the ball a little bit. It was a big, big, big-time play right there.”

On whether the previous long pass that he couldn’t stay in bounds for was in his head….“Eli said my bad, ‘I should have kept the ball in.’ We’re a team though, it’s both of us. I could have stayed in and he could have thrown a better ball.”

On comparing his catch to former Giants WR David Tyree’s Super Bowl catch…. “I’m not going to compare catches. We won the game. You can’t really compare the catches. He caught the ball with his helmet, I had good footwork.”

On his catches on the game-winning drive….“I just go out and do my job. I know that plays are going to come. You have to have a short-term memory playing wide receiver. Just take advantage of every ball that comes your way.”

On keeping his feet inbounds on the sideline catch on the game-winning drive….“I knew I had to freeze my feet when the ball touched my fingertips. Wherever I was at when the ball hit my fingertips, I just froze my feet and fell. I knew I was either going to get hit or hit the ground. I knew something was going to happen, but I knew that I couldn’t let that ball go.”

On making plays down the stretch….. “We knew that one of us was going to have to make a big play. We didn’t know when though. Just bite your tongue, be patient and the ball is going to come to you.”

On the run game setting up the pass game…..“They played a two-deep zone. We knew we had to run the ball and the run game was going to open the pass game for us. That’s how football is. You just have to be patient and wait your turn.”

On whether he felt extra pressure on the last drive of the game….“There’s no pressure. It’s football, except you have a little bit more people watching.”

On what Eli Manning said in the huddle….“He didn’t say anything. He just said the play. We knew what it was going to come down to. We’ve been in this situation all year. We’ve been in that situation, it’s just the Super Bowl. You have to dig deep and go out there and make a play.”
