Giants Ticket Prices Now Highest in the NFL
The Jets have been pulling out all the stops this past year to sell their remaining PSLs. They are still way behind the Giants in sales (it is rumored the Jets have over 10k PSLs open to the Giants’ 2k) and have even begun to scale back on their asking prices.
That would put them further behind the Giants in ticket sales revenue, according to SeatGeek.com …….read below
Despite one of their best seasons in team history, despite a roster full of exciting young stars, despite a brash and outspoken coach who is unafraid to speak his mind, New York Jets’ ticket sales still trail those of their cross town rivals, the Giants, by a large margin.
The Jets organization’s ticketing woes have been well publicized over the past few months, with many stories written about the possibility of local television blackouts of Jets games until all PSLs (Personal Seat Licenses) were sold. Just within the past week the AP reported that the Jets are reducing prices for 18,000 PSLs. With all this uncertainty in the primary ticket market, we decided to take a closer look at how 2010 Jets and Giants tickets are selling on the secondary market. Average 2010 Giants tickets cost $243.29, the highest average price in the league. Jets tickets meanwhile are trading at $205.63, the sixth highest price in the NFL. Taking a closer look, we found that on average, Giants fans are willing to throw down $30.41 per 2009 victory for each 2010 game, while Jets ticket buyers were only willing to spend $18.69 per 2009 victory (including playoffs.)

Productive Day Ends With Injury to Hixon
Domenik Hixon will have his knee examined after tweaking it on the new playing surface in the stadium this afternoon…
Quotes
Antrel Rolle on being a Giant and being a catalyst on defense…..
“First and foremost I’m just trying to be a teammate……..As for the energy part, I’ve been the same way since I stepped on the field when I was six years old.”
The mentality of the new secondary is…….“Break on the ball, create turnovers, communicate…”
Osi Umenyiora…on mini camp
“It is my 8th year, but at the end of the day I still feel I have a bunch of things I need to work on…I don’t think I’ve hit my peak, I don’t think I’m nowhere close I’m supposed to be…I’m really a practice guy I like to work on my game. The more reps I get the better I’m going to be….”
Eli Manning on the defense…..
“I don’t want to give away all of our secrets. It’s a different style. Different looks. Different blitzes, lots of energy and enthusiasm….”

Unfortunately, the actual head count at the afternoon practice is nowhere near the 30,000 the Giants thought were coming. Their estimates were based tickets that were applied for online.
The tickets were free, so the guess is people went in and grabbed as many as they could, and then realized they couldn’t use them.

Tom Coughlin Post Practice Interview: Highlights
Q: How did the group look?
A: They did all right. One side does okay that means the other side didn’t. And the other side does okay and that means the original side didn’t. So it is back and forth. But there is good enthusiasm. They know what this is. It signifies the end of the offseason. And they want to get it together going into the time off. So they know exactly what they are doing and they have worked hard. And it has been a good offseason for us. So let’s hope we finish strong.
Q: How do things look back there in the secondary with Antrel Rolle and Deon Grant?
A: They are doing a nice job. You have a couple of guys that are veterans; played in an awful lot of big games, been around the league, understand the game. And fortunately both of those guys – they love to play. They bubble, they talk. I think it is going to help.
Q: What has impressed you the most about Rolle?
A: What I just said. He loves to play, he is bubbly, and he is energetic. He is an athlete. He likes to do all of those kinds of things. When practice is over he is liable to show you that he can throw the ball 70 yards. He does all kind of stuff like that. He is a nice addition. He has good energy and an aggressive personality.
Q: Has he lobbied you to run the wildcat?
A: Since day one, yes.
Q: What about Clint Sintim? We didn’t see much from his first year.
A: Our expectations are very high for Clint. We are all pulling for him that this will be a big year for him.
Q: Again, we didn’t see much from him last year.
A: We drafted him and we thought very, very highly of him. We still do. He had his rookie year. A rookie year is a rookie year. It is different – everyone has a kind of a different experience. So I think that after that he understands that. He is much more serious about what he is doing right now.
Q: Do you see the same ………..
A: What I have seen all winter.
Q: A guy with not a lot of playing time last year – he is working with the first team. I know that isn’t a big deal but is that because there is nobody else?
A: No, no. Again, as I said, the expectations are high.
Q: From the defensive standpoint, what have you seen in the OTA’s and what do you hope to see in this mini camp?
A: We are getting people to work together who haven’t worked together. The two safeties we have talked about – Aaron Ross back on the field, and now a bunch of young guys working them in. Taking the rookies and getting them integrated into what we are doing – using a lot of different combinations of personnel. So making progress with our system implemented by a new coordinator, Perry Fewell. And the response to the guys has been good.
Q: RE: Andre Brown
A: He is getting there. He does have, occasionally, a little bit of a setback. But he has worked his way through a lot of it.

Notes, Quotes…….
Both WR Steve Smith and CB Terrell Thomas were members of the USC Trojan team that won the 2005 BCS Championship. Sanctions against the school threaten to rescind the Trojans’ National Championship. The two had similar reactions to the news….
Thomas: “As a player from USC, I guarantee none of us will say we lost that national championship or it doesn’t count. We won it fair and square. We didn’t lose it. We won every game out there.”
Smith: “That was one of my best games as a Trojan. If they take [it] away in the record books I don’t want some kid who is looking 10 years from now not to see my name in it. But they can’t take my memories away.”
LB Gerris Wilkinson sold his number 59 to teammate Michael Boley and grabbed #59, Antonio Pierce‘s old number……
“Fifty-nine hadn’t been super lucky for me over the past few years, I was kind of looking forward to changing the number. I know 58 comes with a lot of stuff behind it in terms of A.P. (Pierce) and (former Giants linebacker) Carl Banks. And I think people see it as more of a middle-linebacker type number, so I was happy about making the change.”
The defensive line and their new coach, Robert Nunn are going through a honeymoon stage…
Nunn: “Just taking one step at a time and starting with fundamentals. That is the only way I know how to do it. So that is what we are going to try to do to hopefully get off to a good start, which we have so far, and keep building each day and try to improve each one individually. And if we do that, then we are going to improve as a group.”
Mathias Kiwanuka: “It’s a different philosophy. It’s what we’ve been doing, but there are definitely changes in philosophy and how we go about our execution. Our stances have changed, our steps have changed, our reads have changed. But when you change the defense, those things are going to change, too. It’s a combination of a change in the defense and a change of the coach.”

NY / NJ Super Bowl Is League’s Best Idea in Years
If you are a football player or a football fan, weather is never a factor. You deal with it. It’s part of the landscape.
All of a sudden football fans are getting cold feet?
I’m not buying it. The detractors of the idea to bring the Super Bowl to a cold-weather venue are either selfish or just plain jealous.
I can’t tell you that there’s no rule stating that America’s biggest sports event has to be played in warn weather, because there is, but the NFL didn’t get to be the globe’s premier circuit by not entertaining new ideas. They got there by making bold decisions. Decisions like the one they made yesterday in Dallas.
And this idea is not only a new idea, it’s a great idea. One with guts and savvy and foresight. America has too many “in the box” thinkers to appreciate it right now, but when the time comes it’ll have sunk in.
The Super Bowl has been played in domes and sunny destinations for too long. Like many of America’s treasures, it is starting to be taken for granted, and like America, it needs to get back to the basics.
The past 25 or so Super Bowls have begun to blend together in our collective minds. You would be hard-pressed to pull out one particular game – or moment, even – that stands out to the casual fan. In 2014, that all changes.
No one will forget Super Bowl XVLIII. That’s the game that will be remembered as the one that brought the NFL – and America – back to its roots.
Commissioner Roger Goodell and the NFL owners should be commended on their choice of the New Meadowlands for this event. Excuses are for losers, and anyone who has an excuse for not playing the biggest game in the biggest city is a loser for opposing it. These opponents are naysayers who just hate New York.
Fans will eat it up. There are 82, 500 seats in the new stadium. I will bet anyone right now that there will be 20 million requests for those 82,500 tickets come 2013. So much for fans fearing the elements.
Players who oppose the idea have to be joking, too. There is not one player that would say he doesn’t want to play in a Super Bowl because its too cold. These guys are pros. They’d play the game on the moon if it was held there…
In my humble opinion, being a denizen of this great city for nearly half a century, this is a great day for America, New York, the NFL, the fans, business owners, politicians, the sponsors, the networks, the media….uh did I leave anyone out..?

DE Tuck Is Getting Healthier By the Day
Our esteemed colleague over at ESPN New York – Ohm Youngmiusk – delivers a feature on DE Justin Tuck, who played the last 15 weeks of the 2009 season with a torn labrum. (Insert Flozell Adams expletive here).
Tuck was clearly aggravated by the injury and it was obvious to everyone that it impaired his ability and effectiveness.
“My shoulder has been improving just about every day,” Tuck said right after coming off the 18th hole at the Hamilton Farm Golf Club. “Still not 100 percent, but I’m out here playing golf and I didn’t grimace at all, so it has been feeling good. I can move my arm,” Tuck said. “That is the big thing. Last year I kind of just played through the pain and I think it was stupid of me because I hurt my team more than I helped them.”
That alone should quell the fears of Giants fans. A healthy and focused Justin Tuck is good for the Giants and bad for opponents. Perry Fewell will look like a genius this year.
Xanadu Could Be Rescued by Dolphins’ Ross
Mike Kelly of the Bergen Record is reporting that Stephen Ross, the developer who bought the Dolphins a few years back, has his eyes on the whitest of white elephants – Xanadu.
The dormant, incomplete shopping/entertainment hub is in need of a cash infusion and Ross has a history of turning clay into gold.
Nearly $2 billion has been dumped into Xanadu and a billion more will be needed to finish it. Ross apparently is anticipating a NY Super Bowl. A functional Xanadu would play nicely into that plan.
Press Box Imploded at Old Stadium
From FOX5 New York….last night the old press box at Giants Stadium was brought down. This will clear the way for the remaining part of the stadium to be demolished to make room for much needed parking space.

Shaun O’ Hara Back From Iraq
The Giants’ center is as tireless off the field as he is on. O’Hara has just returned from a goodwill trip to Iraq with the USO to support the troops. He is also gearing up for several charity events to benefit his foundation. I’ve been attending quite a few charity events myself these days, and O’Hara always seems to be there when I walk in….

Blackout Frenzy Hits New York
Don’t know why Jets fans are fretting the possibility of Jets games being blacked out. Currently, the general public does not know how many non-premium seats the Jets have open so this may simply be a ploy to sell some tickets.
At last count we heard it may be in excess of 10,000 seats. We know the upper bowl (which carry no PSL for Jet games) is sold out. The most expensive seats are gone. The premium seats are ineligible to be counted. So that leaves the end zones in the lower two tiers. The Jets will either lower the prices on these seats or attach club access to them in order to make them ineligible. Either that, or they can just buy up enough seats each game to dodge being blacked out.
The Giants have no worries. According to sources the team has approximately 1500 open PSLs and they are going fast. The Giants may end up getting legitimate sellouts. Getting 2014 the Super Bowl might give both teams a boost in sales as well.
Beatty Will Challenge At OT
According to OC Kevin Gilbride, second-year OT Will Beatty will be pushing hard for a starting spot. The coach likes Beatty’s athleticism and footwork.
That will put some pressure on current starters David Diehl and Kareem McKenzie.
“They are going to do everything they can to keep him seated just where he has been which is on the bench. If they don’t (play well), then we will work him into the lineup,” Gilbride said.
Notable Quotes of the Week
“Sports fans, and especially football fans, are not intimidated by weather” – Mark Lamping, the CEO of the New Meadowlands Stadium
“We were a team. That’s what teams do. I don’t think we relied on any one person more than we should have. We had superstars for sure. Lawrence Taylor, Phil Simms, Harry Carson, George Martin, Joe Morris, but I don’t think anyone thought of themselves any higher than anyone else. It really was a team of equals. We went out and we played – we really played for each other more so than anything else. It was a great team. You usually don’t see that type of teamwork anymore. That’s what I miss the most about playing in football. Playing with guys like that.” - Former Giants TE Mark Bavaro on the ’86 Giants.
“I think its exceptional. It may be the nicest ballpark in the NFL. The seats are terrific, the interior’s great. You go inside after the first quarter to get a coke and a pretzel you may not come back out because its so comfortable in there with the couches and the big screens you may just stay in there. Its really a magnificent ballpark.” – Sean Landeta, former Giants punter on the New Meadowlands Stadium
