Source: Boley Under Investigation Down South

by John Fennelly on December 17th, 2011 at 5:55 am

Giants’ LB Michael Boley has been hampered by a hamstring injury the past month, forcing the Giants to shuffle their already wafer-thin roster around. Apparently, the hamstring is not the only problem Boley is facing these days.

A report has surfaced that the 29-year-old star LB is under investigation for chid abuse in his home town of Gadson, Alabama in a case allegedly involving his five-year-old son. The incident, which occurred this past spring, looks to be more of a money grab than anything else. Boley is not being charged criminally at the moment,  but a grand jury has been convened to hear the case.

Boley Out For Saints

by John Fennelly on November 27th, 2011 at 3:03 pm

Giants’ LB Michael Boley has been ruled OUT for tomorrow night’s game in New Orleans.  According to SNY insider Ralph Vacchiano

The Giants will be without LB Michael Boley, who will miss his second straight game with a hamstring injury. He was listed as “doubtful” on Saturday, but he did not travel with the Giants to New Orleans on Sunday afternoon.

That would put the Giants’ defense in the same predicament they were last week vs Philadelphia – with rookies in key spots. But this week they will have Drew Brees to contend with, not Vince Young. Brees leads the NFL in passing yards with 3,326.

Boley Takes Umbrage to Coughlin’s Criticism

by John Fennelly on November 22nd, 2011 at 5:29 am

Giants’ LB Michael Boley is not one to rock the boat. Yesterday, he – along with some other Giants – aired their frustration to the media, especially to the public criticism voiced by head coach Tom Coughlin.

Coughlin used harsh words in describing the team’s poor performance on Sunday, basically calling them soft after getting “manhandled” by Philadelphia…

“It’s his assessment” the injured LB said. “I’ve always said, coaches coach, players play. We (are) in the trenches. We really know what goes on out there. For someone on the side to say this doesn’t happen, it doesn’t mean nothing to me.”

Coughlin responded in his presser yesterday…from Geico SportsNite….

Boley, Knowing He’s Needed, Aims to Play

by John Fennelly on November 17th, 2011 at 7:04 am

LB Michael Boley was at practice yesterday but he got no further than the stationary bike. He is nursing a sore hamstring and it is putting a huge damper on his – and the Giants’ – immediate future.

With the nemesis Eagles with Michael Vick, DeSean Jackson and LeSean McCoy visiting this week, the Blue needs Boley – their only natural, veteran LB – now more than ever.  When he left midway through the game last Sunday, the Giants’ defense fell into disarray, missed some assignments and surrendered big plays to the 49ers.

He seems optimistic that he will play Sunday, but the consensus is that a lot of things must fall into place in short time for that to happen…..

“We’ll see,” said Boley when asked if he’ll practice this week. “Right now I’m just trying to take it slow, make sure everything is 100 per cent.”

Playing is a different story. But, usually if you can practice, you can play. Boley feels that both are possibilities.

I don’t know yet. It’s still early in the week. Have some time to come in, get some rehab, get a lot better. We’ll see.”

Boley was also clear that whoever replaces him will be the playcaller on defense.

“That’s the way the tree works for us. When somebody goes down, the next person has to step up and be ready to go.”

Giants Uncertain About Boley’s Return

by John Fennelly on November 14th, 2011 at 7:53 pm

Giants OLB Michael Boley has a hamstring issue that is going to cause him to miss time. How much time, is the question….

“It will end up being day-to-day,” said Tom Coughlin. “Michael’s very important to us. He’s our middle backer. He communicates. He’s played very, very well. We want to get him back as fast as we possibly can. That’s our goal, to get him healthy again so he can come back on the field and play the way he’s capable of playing and that’s the whole purpose of this thing…”

Speculation is that Boley could miss two weeks at the minimum.

When ask to comment on Justin Tuck‘s statement that Boley was the defender the Giants could least afford to lose, Coughlin disagreed with that assessment.

“Everybody is important…..It’s not about any one individual, it’s about a team. Someone now is going to have to step up, if he can’t go, and perform the duties that he had and try to help us win a game.”

Coughlin also said that the young linebackers would all have to practice all week at the positions they will be playing on Sunday to alleviate any confusion.

Aaron Ross is day-to-day with a leg contusion. There were no other injuries to report.

“We have some bumps and bruises, but we’ll see how they come out tomorrow,” said Coughlin.

Boley Finally Comfortable in Giants’ Defense

Link Recommended by admin on October 17th, 2011 at 7:16 pm

From Greg Hanlon of capitalnewyork.com…

“It’s just details,” Giants linebacker Michael Boley told me over the phone last Thursday, referring the two straight shaky games the Giants defense had played, the second of which led to last Sunday’s loss to the Seattle Seahawks.

“As a unit, we keep missing out on small things,” he said. “We keep shooting ourselves in the foot. A guy not being in his gap, a guy going the wrong way. It’s not like it’s anything big, when somebody just didn’t know what they were doing.”

These “small things” can result in big plays.

Such was the case this Sunday, when a couple of missed assignments by the Giants yielded two long touchdowns for the Buffalo Bills. The first of these was an 80-yard run by the Bills’ Fred Jackson, on which Boley appeared not to be at fault. The second of these was a 60-yard slant pass, on which Boley failed to drop back into the middle zone in time. If Boley had executed his assignment, he could have limited the play to a short gain.

Boley Becoming Leader on Giants Defense

by John Fennelly on September 28th, 2011 at 6:21 pm

If leading by example is the measuring stick for NFL defenders, then Giants’ LB Michael Boley is doing a helluva job leading this team.

In Week 2 against St. Louis, Boley scooped up a fumble and raced 65 yards for a touchdown. This week, he came up big on 4th and 1 by taking down the slippery LeSean McCoy three yards behind the line of scrimmage.

If you recall last year, it was Boley who sacked Dallas QB Tony Romo, breaking Romo’s collarbone and effectively ending Dallas’ high hopes.

Boley is a soft-spoken guy, very humble and not the type you would picture as a leader. Sometimes he talks so low, you have to listen to your recording several times to make sure you get his quotes right.

He chooses to lead by example, which is the Giant way. He spoke to reporters today at TIMEX:

On if he feels he’s taking more of a leadership role this season:

“You can say that, especially in my room, the linebacker room. I’m the old guy now. We have four rookies in our room so I try to take on that leadership role and communicate with them and help them as much as possible.”

About his role in the huddle:

“Yeah. I tell (Greg) Jones and the other guys in our room, the linebackers, we run the show. It starts with us. We give the huddle call. We get guys lined up and that’s where it starts. For us, as a group, we kind of take on that leadership role and get it rolling from there.”
