Famed American fashion designer and Giants fan Kenneth Cole hosted a V.I.P. sale with proceeds going to benefit New York Giants’ football star Justin Tuck’s R.U.S.H. for Literacy charity.
R.U.S.H. for Literacy, founded by Justin and his wife Lauran in 2008, encourages children in selected schools in New York and Tuck’s home state of Alabama to read, understand, succeed and hope.
Justin was thrilled as many of his teammates braved the massive crowd of tourists and holiday shoppers in one of Manhattan’s busiest neighborhoods to show support for the kids and their All-Pro Defensive End including Michael Boley, David Baas and Mark Herzlich.

What do Giant fans have to look forward to on Monday night?
Lets get behind the numbers. For starters, I don’t think anyone in the NFL would say that the Eagles pass rush is better than the New York Giants and if Justin Tuck plays it’s no contest.
The Eagles has 5 sacks and 11 QB hits in last weeks game. You could expect Kiwi, Tolley and JPP to match those numbers and it wouldn’t surprise me to see a safety or corner blitz thrown in a handful of times.
The Rams receivers also had 6 dropped passes. That is not going to help you win any games in NFL. I would expect Rolle and Webster to be active around the ball looking for one of those drops to stick to a blue shirt.
On the other side of the ball the Rams gave up 237 yards rushing to McCoy & Vick. With Jackson out early Cadillac Williams put up 91 yards. One would expect that Bradshaw and Jacobs could have an equally good day if Gilbride doesn’t abandon the run as he did against the Redskins.
And as much as I love Fred Robbins, the former Giants Defensive Tackle, Da’Rel Scott would blow past the Rams defensive front if Gilbride ever decided to reinstate Earth, Wind and Fire!
The Eagles were 8 for 12 on 3rd down conversions. Maybe this game is exactly what the doctor ordered to restore some confidence for the New York Giants who were down right miserable on 3rd down last week.

Mathias Kiwanuka has left the game with a groin injury and will not return.
The extent of the injury is not yet known, but considering that he’s a New York Giants, I’d expect the worst and go from there.
Update:
Kiwanuka’s injury is not deemed serious, and will hopefully cost him just tonight’s game. More when it’s available.

According to Mathias Kiwanuka, undrafted free agent Mark Herzlich is “on the doorstep” of being back to his old self, as per Alex Raskin of CBS Sports.
If true, Herzlich could really help the Giants on defense and on sepcial teams. Herzlich was dominant at Boston College; he was named 2008 ACC defensive player of the year and was considered a top ten pick in the draft before being diagnosed with a rare form of cancer. Two years later, Kiwanuka is now contending that Herzlich is close to the player he once was.
This could also be the case of one player trying to pump his own teammate up, and it should also be noted that Kiwanuka is a BC alum. Still, this is much closer to good new than bad news, and at this point, I’ll count that as a win.

With the Giants finally taking the field tonight to take on the Carolina Panthers, any legitimate football game will come as a respite to a team and fanbase in need of a diversion.
So, this will be a good time to try and squash all of the negative energy and see what this team is made of. There is sure to be a lot of rust, as there should with any post-lockout preseason game.
With that said, here are five things to look for tonight.
1) How cohesive will the offensive line look?
With center David Baas new to the squad and with Will Beatty now firmly entrenched at left tackle (with David Diehl moving to left guard), how will the team be affected by the loss of Shaun O’Hara and Rich Seubert? Will this usually well oiled machine continue to run with its same normal consistency?
2) Who will step up in the third receiver role?
A lot of eyes will be on Victor Cruz, Domenik Hixon, Jerrel Jernigan and Devin Thomas tonight as they try to separate themselves from the pack. Hixon has the experience in the system. Cruz dazzled us last year and is a fan favorite. Jernigan is a blazing fast rookie who could open eyes. Thomas should factor in as well. So, who will shine?
3) How will Mathias Kiwanuka look at linebacker?
While his time on the field will be brief, it should be interesting to see how Kiwanuka is used and how he will adapt to the position. He’s done it before, but it’s been a while since we’ve seen what he could do.
4) How will the tight ends be utilized?
I’m sure we’ll all pine for Kevin Boss soon enough as Bear Pascoe or Travis Beckum both have their flaws that could be exposed early and often. It will be intriguing how Eli Manning uses them. As we all know, Beckum (who is banged up anyway and likely won’t play) can’t block and Pascoe can’t catch.
5) How will the Special teams look in light of the new rules?
How will kickoffs being moved up five yards matter? A lot will be also be made of the punter training camp battle between incumbent Matt Dodge and new acquisition Steve Weatherford. While Dodge has a stronger leg, Weatherford is more accurate. Tonight goes a log way on who gets the leg up (sorry for the pun) on the competition.

Mathias Kiwanuka has been named the starting strongside linebacker, according to Alex Raskin of CBS Sports.
[LB Coach] Herrmann was complimentary toward LB Clint Sintim, but said Kiwanuka would handle the position on first and second down. However, Herrmann said “All bets are off” on third down, so Kiwanuka could move back to DE in those circumstances.
Considering that most of the other options at strongside linebacker are either rookies or Clint Sintim, this is not a huge surprise. Still, it seems like there was never any competition, so it’s interesting that Raskin’s characterized it as “winning” the starting LB job. It seems as if the Giants were ready to hand Kiwanuka the job as long as they deemed him healthy, so this is good news on that front.
The Giants have some intriguing young LBs, including Mark Herzlich and Jacquian Williams, MLBs Greg Jones and Philip Dillard, as well as Sintim returning from injury. The Job is Kiwanuka’s, but it’ll be interesting to see what the youngsters can bring to the table.
Of course, this could all change if the Giants trade Osi Umenyiora.

According to Justin Tuck’s Twitter, Mathias Kiwanuka will be a Giant this season.
Kiwi is returning to the big blue. Yes sir
I think this is great news in more ways than one. First, it means that the Giants believe Kiwi is healthy enough to contribute. Second, it means the Giants have a backup plan in case Umenyiora holds out, and it gives them leverage in negotiations. Finally, it gives the Giants another pass rusher who can play both defensive line and linebacker if needed. Glad to have him back.

Some say timing is everything. The New York Football Giant’s timing is terrible. In likely the most confusing and volatile offseason of the modern era, the Giants find themselves staring at 21 roster members that lack a contract.
Of these 21 players, several are key contributors. TE Kevin Boss is among the players in limbo. Boss is ultimately expected to stay in New York. HB Ahmad Bradshaw, who racked up over a 1,000 yards in 2010 has been told that he is a top priority when negotiations can finally start and thus is expected to remain a Giant as well.
There are three Giants, however, whose futures are less certain. Two of these players could directly affect the other’s future, while the third will need to battle back from a devastating injury.

After an embarrassing two weeks, the New York Giants are very likely only 6 days away from beginning preparations for 2011. With the new year approaching, I thought it would be smart to go through some of the current members of the organization whose futures with the club are either hot button issues or otherwise in doubt. The piece is a long one and it is broken up into three sections: Out/On The Bubble/ In. As always feel free to let GFB know what you think.
Out
HC Tom Coughlin: While ragging on Coughlin has been an overused go-to option for writers and pundits league wide lately, the blade is swinging ever closer to his neck after yesterday’s loss. There is an argument for keeping him of course. His tenure thus far in New York has been an upgrade from a bleak stretch of time in the team’s history that spanned from 1992 through 2003. After a rebuilding period in 2004, Coughlin fielded an overall competitive squad from 2005 through 2008 and obviously brought New York an impressive Super Bowl win. But things have not been quite the same for the Giants since jumping out to an 11-1 start in 2008. Following up a Super Bowl run with 3 months of utterly dominant football, the Giants stumbled at home against Philadelphia that season and ultimately lost to the Eagles again in their first appearance of the playoffs. 2009 saw a 5-0 start turn into a 3-5 finish and 2010 saw a historical single game collapse, an unspeakable rash of turnovers, and an overall failure to execute on special teams. Coughlin, who is historically quite reliable when it comes to challenges, blew the Giants final challenge of yesterday’s game on an obvious unfavorable ruling and thus was unable to protest against at a late Eli interception on a key drive that was clearly caught out of bounds.

It’s bye week so things are pretty quiet. Here’s some links to keep the Giants’ discussion going:
The New York Times continues the discussion about the future of Mathias Kiwanuka: When the Giants placed Mathias Kiwanuka on injured reserve Thursday with a herniated disk in his neck, General Manager Jerry Reese and Coach Tom Coughlin each expressed hope that Kiwanuka would be healthy in 2011. Although Kiwanuka is the team’s most versatile defensive player, his contract expires at the end of the season, and the team is already stocked with defensive ends. And while the Giants will weigh their options, it seems questionable that they would let Kiwanuka walk. Read more …
