Before I unveil the top three (I know everyone is waiting with baited breath!), I’ll give a nod to some guys who just missed the cut.
14. Lawrence Tynes
His kickoffs weren’t bad this year, and he nailed 83% of his field goal attempts. The general consensus among Giants fans was that they did not feel as nervous when he stepped on to the field as they had in previous seasons.
13. Devin Thomas
When Thomas was acquired, most everyone wrote him off as mediocre depth for a desperate Giants’ receiving corps. But the former second rounder gave the Giants’ special teams coverage unit a boost reminiscent of David Tyree. Tynes and Thomas were just about the only members of the special teams unit that weren’t total disasters.
12. Brandon Jacobs
For all the flack he’s gotten, Jacobs actually had a very solid year, statistically speaking. He adjusted quite nicely to a lesser role, despite his obvious distaste for the situation. The limited wear and tear allowed him to stay healthy and productive: his 5.6 yards per carry is a career high. The 823 yards and 9 touchdowns are excellent for a “backup,” especially one that many had written off before the season started.
There’s no doubt in my mind that he could have broken the thousand yard mark again if the team showed a little restraint in their use of Ahmad Bradshaw. There’s still juice left in the tank.
11. Rich Seubert
Seubert was the MVP of the Giants’ offensive line this season. Although the line around him threatened to crumble, he was the glue that held it together. He was shifted from his normal guard position to center when Shaun O’Hara went down, and the offensive line did not lose a beat; it actually got better.
Seubert is an absolute bulldog, and he has been his entire career. He showed great toughness bouncing back from a gruesome leg injury, and he’s been one of the more underrated linemen in the league for some time.
Although he performed about the way we would have expected, the fact that he shifted from guard to center and still played at a high level earns him a spot on this list. Here’s to a speedy recovery.

Signing of Third Round Pick Makes K Swank a Roster Casualty
The Giants signed their third-round selection in April’s draft – LSU safety Chad Jones – today to a 4-year contract. According to sources the deal is worth $2.6 million.
To make room on the roster for Jones, K Sam Swank was waived.
The dominoes are beginning to fall. Personally, I thought Swank posed a major threat to incumbent Lawrence Tynes. He may, still….maybe the Giants think they can get him back at some point during the summer….
