While the Giants and the Patriots’ offenses revolve mostly on their prolific passing games, the key to victory in the Super Bowl may just come down on who can rush the ball more effectively.
The Pats and the Giants don’t particularly feature strong rushing attacks. During the regular season, the Giants ranked last in the league in rushing (89.2 YPG) while the Patriots were not much better, coming in at 20th in the league (110.3 YPG). Both teams are also middle of the pack in defending the run, as the Giants rank 19th in the league (121.3 YPG) while the Patriots are slightly better at 17th (117.1 YPG)
Both teams run the ball by committee with the Giants trotting out Ahmad Bradshaw and Brandon Jacobs to move the chains while the Patriots can turn to BenJarvus Green-Ellis, Danny Woodhead and even rookie Stevan Ridley.

While the 49ers and the Ravens might have more complete defenses and the Patriots may lay claim for having the league’s best offense, but out of the teams still left in the playoffs the Giants could conceivably be the most complete team.
As the Giants come together late in the season they are firing on all cylinders, both offensively and defensively. They are proving to be a matchup nightmare for opposing teams, as teams will have to play a complete game on offense and defense to stop the Giants.
On offense, Eli Manning and company are putting points on the board with ease. In their last four games (including the playoffs) the Giants are scoring a little more than 30 points per game. That is about six points more than they averaged during the regular season (24.6).

So what has me agitated this evening? For a while my biggest issue with this matchup was knowing that Aaron Ross was once again going to opt to wear those ugly white cleats that make him look like an extra on Saved By The Bell.
I thought about getting desperate, reaching down into my soul, and ranting about how game time beer commercials have gone from hilarious to ridiculous. At no point have I ever turned to a male friend and lectured him on the quality of his light beer choice.
When your buddy buys a VW Beetle because he likes how Katy Perry sounds on the stereo system, then you say something. When your buddy is late to the bar because he’s still in line at a Snooki book signing you douse him in lighter fluid, light a match, and then you sure as Hell say something. Priorities, people.

Brandon Jacobs is rarely at a loss for words. He’s become Mr. Giant this year, though, with every game possibly being his last. He had to take a pay cut before the season to accomodate the contract of backfield mate Ahmad Bradshaw, but it has been him that has been spearheading the return of the Giants’ rushing attack.
Jacobs met with the media on Thursday….here are some highlights
His reaction to JPP’s prediction
I ride with him, he’s my teammate, I’m riding with him on whatever he says, I’m riding with him, no doubt about it.
How confident are you?
I am very confident, I feel good about our opportunity. Wake up every morning feeling so good about this game. They are a good football team, you can’t take anything away from them. They are 15-1 and to go 15-1 in a league like this is special because guys are coming for you every week. I just like our opportunity that we have and we’ve got to go out and take advantage of it. They are going to go out and lay it down for us and we’ve got to take it.

I don’t see any reason to stray from a formula that has been working. Especially when it is extremely appropriate for this particular scenario. So while I don’t intend to be too agitated today, I will be utilizing yet another comparison to the 2007 championship season.
In 2006, Tiki Barber served as the face of an underwhelming Giants franchise. In the fall of 2005 (a season in which he would break off a 95 yard run and accrue 235 rushing yards in a single game), he would accompany Jeremy Shockey to the bedside of a dying Wellington Mara. The two were described as the football patriarch’s favorite current stars.
But after years of serving as the lightening rod for an otherwise underachieving offense, Barber abruptly left pro football. His departure left a significant hole in the Giants roster. The hole was not much unlike the one that Jerry Reese found himself staring at when Steve Smith hobbled out the door and into the Eagles arms.
Between ’06 and ’07, the Giants finally gave up their attempt to mold project slot receiver Tim Carter into a dangerous weapon. Carter, who is the cousin of former MLB Outfielder Gary Sheffield, appeared to be a physical specimen. He was easily one of the fastest players in the league. Unfortunately, he lacked the ability to consistently haul in catches.

“Dallas Cowboys, New York Giants does linger year in and year out. Three weeks don’t matter. It goes for years so it is going to be like that. Those guys know what they are playing for and we know what we are playing for and we are going to come in here and give it the best shot that we can and leave it all on the field.” - Brandon Jacobs
from Rich Conforti of Ultimate NYG
You never thought anyone would find a way to use ‘Brandon Jacobs’ and ‘quietly’ in the same sentence. I say quietly because he is amidst a stretch of pretty good football that has been overshadowed by some of his, to put it kindly, “moments.”
Most of us also never thought we’d see the day where the Giants featured one of the league’s most incompetent rushing attacks. We had become accustomed to each season ending with the G-Men right near the top of the league’s rushing totals (the Giants finished in the top six in rushing yardage in 2007, 2008 and 2010). But in 2011, the Giants are dead last in rushing at 3.5 yards/carry, and dead last in rushing yards from scrimmage as well.
So take this praise with a grain of salt.

JPP (90) is on the rise, while mentor Osi Umenyiora (72) seems to be on the decline. Though he has been the Giants best DE in 2011, let's see Pierre-Paul's ability stand the test of time before we enshrine him. Photo courtesy NYDailyNews
I know you’ve missed me, but I’ve been a bit busy. I honestly thought that it would be easier to erect a solid gold monument to Jason Pierre-Paul in my front yard, but it took over two days just to fabricate the molding. Quite frankly, as soon as I finished, I realized that I was probably just wasting my time anyway.
Have we learned nothing from the Jeremy Shockey era? All of these JPP=LT comparisons are as ridiculous as comparing Shockey to Bavaro after a 2 TD rookie season just because he was the most electrifying player on the blandest offense in the league.

RB Brandon Jacobs is sick and tired of hearing the home crowd boo his team. The home crowd is sick and tired of Brandon Jacobs’ team giving them reasons to boo.
The rift between the Giants’ RB and Giant fans is growing ever larger. Jacobs, according to many fans, has not lived up to the standard the faithful has become accustomed to when it comes to rushing the football. Jacobs feels the booing is counterproductive and wants it to stop.
The battle goes on. Jacobs will be gone someday, but fans will still be here. Readers have been sending in questions and comments all week about Jacobs…here are some:
What is going through his mind? Does he think alienating the fans will help his cause, the team’s cause?
What doesn’t Jacobs get about the fans booing his team’s underperformance…?
