Giants Conclude Workouts

by Charles Costello on June 11th, 2011 at 6:35 am

Dan Benton, our contributor from Giants 101 has a report from yesterday’s workout at Bergen Catholic High School in Oradell, NJ. Twenty seven Giants were in attendance, and players addressed the media following the workout.

Here’s what Benton posted from Giants center Shaun O’Hara talking about this week’s workouts and the labor situation:

“It’s good to get football back on the brain. It was an opportunity to teach the younger players. Aside from being teammates, a lot of us are friends and it was a great chance to bond this week. Guys appreciate that.”

“The business side of the league is never pretty for the players and it’s never pretty for the fans. This is the ultimate manifestation of that. There’s no more respected an owner than John Mara. What the players love about him is that he’s not in it for the business, he’s in it for the game. The problem is that there are 31 other guys who all have to agree on the same thing.”

O’Hara: ‘We Owe It to Our Fans’

by Charles Costello on May 19th, 2011 at 5:56 am

Giants center Shaun O’Hara on Monday’s court ruling which kept the lockout in place:

“I don’t think it hurt the players. We would have welcomed the opportunity to go back and train at our facilities and we would have liked to have really gotten together as a team and been able to do some things to get ready for the season. Hopefully June 3rd, we will hear some good news.”

O’Hara on the likelihood of players and owners reaching a deal:

“It is something that is doable. There is no reason for us to not have something in place before training camp. That would be a travesty for everybody involved. As we get closer to that, I think everybody understands that and they will realize a sense of urgency. We don’t have a choice. We owe it to our fans, we owe it to the NFL to get it done. Baseball is America’s favorite pastime. But there is nothing more American than NFL football.”

Giants in the News: Shaun O’Hara

by Charles Costello on May 17th, 2011 at 2:53 pm

Shaun O’Hara isn’t letting the lockout sack his good work.

The Giants center has written a children’s book to teach kids how to make smart decisions with money. O’Hara is set to embark on a school tour to promote the book and to make children aware of the basics of finance. He will speak at 10 a.m. at Peekskill Middle School on June 1.

From the Peekskill-Cortland Patch:

“I remember my dad selling the family car when he wanted to start a business,” says O’Hara. “There was no going into debt–no credit cards. My parents taught us to spend what we earned and be fiscally responsible.”

Meanwhile, the 3rd Annual Shaun O’Hara Foundation Golf Outing and Banquet will take place tomorrow at the Trump National Golf & Country Club in Bedminster, NJ. Here’s some info:

This event will feature your favorite current and former New York Giants, as well as celebrities from other NFL teams and professional sports. Held at the exclusive Trump National Golf Club in Somerset, NJ. Each participating foursome will be paired up with a celebrity from the NFL as well as a child battling Cystic Fibrosis. NY Giants Drop the Ball in Round 3

by Craig Santucci on April 30th, 2011 at 12:42 am

In the 3rd round of the 2011 draft, the New York Giants draft…FUMBLE!

Kordell Stewart…I mean Jerrel Jernigan wider receiver from Troy.   Really?

The Associated Press announced that the New York Giants have filled their need a wide receiver with standout Jerrel Jernigan.  Need?

Where will this guy receive any touches?   The Giants have 10 wide receivers:  Hakeem Nicks, Steve Smith, Mario Manningham, Ramses Barden, Domenik Hixon, Derrick Hagen, Victor Cruz, Duke Calhoun, Michael Clayton, and Devin Thomas.   This doesn’t even count the outside chance of one Plaxico Burress wearing the No. 17 once again.  Are the Giants searching for the next DeSean Jackson?

Why?

Seriously…how many more touchdowns can Eli throw?   How many yards or completions can he possibly collect?

Hey Jerry….your team needs two linebackers!  One inside and one outside.

Hey Jerry…your team needs an offensive tackle and a center.

Is Jernigan a nice player. Yes, the 5 foot 8, 181 pound receiver is a nice player.  He plays quarterback, wide receiver, kick returner, and probably corner back.  With out linebacker help…Chris Cooley, Jason Witten, Brent Celek, and Vernon Davis will continue to be running free down the seem for a touchdown.

O’Hara’s Return This Season Uncertain

by John Fennelly on November 13th, 2010 at 1:56 pm

Giants center Shaun O’Hara never had a chance this year. His left ankle kept him from having a productive training camp and he got little done in the preseason.

The ankle healed but O’Hara was left to deal with a residual case of tendonitis in his Achilles tendon. From there, he was forced to put more pressure on his right foot.

That has led to where he is now  – possibly sitting out the rest of the season with a Lisfranc sprain in his right foot. Doctors have told O’Hara his recovery period is from two to eight weeks.

He spoke to reporters yesterday, still hopeful but realistic about his season….

Seubert Goes From Odd Man Out to Center of Attention

by John Fennelly on November 10th, 2010 at 6:33 pm

In training camp, OL Rich Seubert was the odd man out. He was the old hand, the guy who was getting too long in the tooth, yada, yada, yada.

Then one day he showed up with a broken wrist, and the way the coaches were talking, he was headed out the door. The Giants had drafted his heir apparent in Mitch Petrus and Seubert was in danger of becoming a roster casualty.

Or so we thought…..the Giants decided to keep Seubert because C Shaun O’Hara‘s Achilles tendon was playing tricks on him and O’Hara’s backup – Adam Koets – had little game experience.

But he was far from safe. The powers that be wanted Will Beatty to win the LT job and shift David Diehl to left guard, pushing Seubert to the bench. The sharks were circling…..

Things have a weird way of working out in the NFL.  Seubert’s stock suddenly began to rise again when Beatty broke his foot in the opening game, shifting Diehl back to tackle, securing Seubert at guard.

Two months later, O’Hara is still limping around and Koets has been lost for the season, tearing his ACL in Seattle last week.

Don’t look now, but guess who the Giants are using at center these days..? Ah, c’mon, you know….

Seubert spoke to reporters today after practice…

O’Hara To Test Ankle

by Rich Resch on October 12th, 2010 at 12:18 pm

The Giants offensive line came together nicely last week, and with the Lions next on the schedule, I wouldn’t want O’Hara to rush back if he’s not near 100%.

Tom Coughlin also added that both Kenny Phillips and Ahmad Bradshaw are sore, but that it’s not a setback.

Keith Bulluck is walking better but there is no update on him.
