Rosenfels: Giants Were Professional

From Alex Marvez of FOX Sports:

“As he spent much of August bedridden inside a New York City hospital, Sage Rosenfels’ first thought wasn’t about finding the source of the mysterious blood infection that had landed him there.

The quarterback was more worried about when — of even if — he could resume his NFL career.

“There are times when it really did hit me how sick I was,” Rosenfels told FOXSports.com on Wednesday morning. “I guess that should have been my main concern, but most of the time, I was more concerned about getting back on the practice field.”

Rosenfels finally will get that chance once again. Now medically cleared by the New York Giants, Rosenfels was released from injured reserve Tuesday and is clear to sign as a free-agent elsewhere.”

Rosenfels, Reynaud Playing Catch-Up With Giants

by John Fennelly on September 6th, 2010 at 3:31 pm

Newly acquired Giants QB Sage Rosenfels and WR Darius Reynaud are doing their best to brush up on the Giants’ playbook and the team’s way of doing things.

Rosenfels: “I’m excited to be here. Great team, great organization. I’m doing the best I can to learn this offense as quickly as possible, there’s a lot. If I have to play, I have to be ready. There’s no excuse to not be ready. I have to be in that playbook as much as I can, and that’s pretty much what I’m doing. I’m in the playbook, I’m watching film, just trying to learn this thing as much as I can.”

Reynaud: “It’s (the playbook) totally different from what we are doing in Minnesota. The schemes are totally different. As soon as I got here, they gave me this book, and I’ve  been right at it ever since.”

Read: Reese, Coughlin on Trade

by John Fennelly on September 4th, 2010 at 3:35 pm

Our colleague at Inside Football, Pat Traina provides the organization’ s take on the newest Giants…

“Sage gives us a solid veteran backup quarterback in every way,” said Giants GM Jerry Reese said. “If need be, he can go in and win games. He will provide a very good support system and sounding board for Eli in the film room and on the sideline on game day.”

“Darius is a young man that we’ve had our eye on for a while,” Coughlin said. “He is a guy who has versatility – punt returner, kickoff returner, gunner, covers kicks – he can play on all those teams. He’s also been a wide receiver and he’s been a running back. He’ll learn to be a receiver so he can help you out in an emergency situation. He can learn two or three running plays and help you out there as well.”

Breaking News: Giants Acquire QB Rosenfels From Vikings

by John Fennelly on September 3rd, 2010 at 9:37 pm

According to Alex Marvez of FOX Sports, the Minnesota Vikings have traded veteran backup QB Sage Rosenfels to the Giants.

The compensation was not immediately available. The Giants had searched for a new backup since Jim Sorgi suffered a season-ending shoulder injury earlier in the preseason. Third-stringer Rhett Bomar, a 2009 fifth-round pick, proved incapable of handling the role when starting in place of the injured Manning (laceration).

A 10-year NFL veteran with 12 career starts, Rosenfels will provide New York with a veteran presence. Rosenfels was acquired by Minnesota via trade with Houston in 2009 and signed to a three-year, $9 million contract extension. But any chance of competing for a starting spot was derailed when Minnesota signed Brett Favre.

Rosenfels has remained mired in a third-string role in Minneapolis behind backup Tarvaris Jackson despite an outstanding preseason statistically. Rosenfels completed 60.8 percent of his passes with four touchdowns and no interceptions compared with Jackson, who posted a 46.2 completion percentage.

That means Dom Randolph will be among the names of the released tomorrow.  Rhett Bomar will again be relegated to third string…..the deal also includes a KR/RB by the name of Darius Reynaud…..again, compensation information has not been released….
