It’s time for the Giants to realize they need some outside intervention. They are a broken team, and with seven home games still left on their schedule they must placate the tens of thousands of fans who are still holding millions of dollars worth of tickets.
They need to show the fans they are willing to do what it takes to survive in the 2011 New York Football marketplace. They must bring in Randy Moss.
Granted, Moss is a pain in ass to deal with, but keep in mind he will only be a rental. He could solve their current WR dilemma just by lining up. The Giants have to rip their collective nose off to spite their face here and just bring him in.
He can’t break what is already broken. If Jerry Reese truly explores everything, as he says, he will convince John Mara that these are desperate times and desperate measures must be taken. Tom Coughlin’s coaching staff will just have to make it work. Moss could actually save their jobs.
Right now, opposing defenses don’t have to stay up nights gameplanning for this Giants’ offense. Add Moss to the mix, and they will have to. If Randy Moss was 80 years old and in a wheelchair, teams would still have to gameplan for him. He’ll always be a threat.
Moss gives the Giants a third reliable option and the big target Eli Manning needs to be successful. It’s the right move for right now.
From yesterday’s Daily News:
“We investigate everything,” Reese said. “(Moss) hasn’t been in our building so it would be unfair to make an evaluation of him. We don’t really know him. … Our offense is predicated on reads, which is hard for some guys to pick up. But it’s not something that a veteran like him would have trouble with.” We’re not sure the diva receiver is a good match for drill instructor Tom Coughlin, much less a fit for a team that needs a slot receiver more than a deep threat. Moss may not view the Giants as a legit contender anyway.

Tom Coughlin updated reporters today on the injuries sustained by WRs Mario Manningham and Domenik Hixon during last night’s victory over St. Louis:
“As far as I know, all of the tests, all of the protocol for a concussion are being conducted today, right now. He (Manningham) was much clearer when he left the stadium last night. He was much more bright-eyed this morning when he was in, but nevertheless, he’s going through the entire battery of tests that are part of the protocol for someone who leaves the game with any type of head injury. We’ll wait and see what the doctors have to say today when he finishes his exam.”
On Hixon, who will undergo an MRI on his knee:
“He’s going to have all of the tests done in regard with his knee as well. I don’t have any information at this point in time, but he too is going to be completely checked out.”
On if the Giants are being too cautious with Hixon:
“No, I don’t think we’re extra cautious. Do I get involved in the conversations? Yes. Am I overruled by the medical people? Certainly I am. That’s just the nature of the business. We want the players, but there is a fine line. Dom came out after the half, he loosened up. He tried to go. There was still some look in his eye as to the discomfort factor and the lack of true feeling as if things were normal. That was when he came off of the field and the decision was made that he should not return”.
Coughlin said the team would wait to hear the results of the tests before considering bringing in another receiver.
On whether DE Osi Umenyiora will play this week:
“We certainly hope to see that Osi will be ready to go. We hope to have him on the practice field. Tomorrow is not going to be a full speed practice. It will probably be Thursday before that takes place but hopefully Thursday Osi will be ready to practice. If there is not a setback, then I would expect that.”
On if he wants to see Michael Vick play this week vs his team:
“I think that if Michael Vick can play, then he will play.”

Inactive for the Giants against the Rams tonight: DE Osi Umenyiora, TE Travis Beckum, CB Prince Amukamara, RB Da’Rel Scott, OL James Brewer, WR Jerrel Jernigan and OL Mitch Petrus
Hakeem Nicks and Justin Tuck are active.
No clue why Scott is Inactive again. Perhaps he might turn one of Kevin Gilbride’s stale plays into a large gain or even a TD…
Rams RB Steven Jackson and WR Danny Amendola are both inactive tonight for St. Louis

When the Giants hit the field at FedEx this Sunday, they will do so with a depleted roster, but they will also have history on their side.
The Blue has won six straight vs Washington and nine of the last ten, but with the faces changing on both sidelines so dramatically the past nine months one wonders if this one-sided rivalry will continue along this path.
The Giants have 18 new players on their roster, including ten rookies, and if Justin Tuck sits out, the Giants will be starting only 10 of the 22 players they started in last season’s opener.
The Redskins are in transition also. They will start Rex Grossman at QB. Grossman has not started an opener since he was with Chicago in 2007. The Skins also have an influx of new blood most notably ex-Giant DT Barry Cofield and former Cardinal RB Tim Hightower. Washington may start more than a dozen new players on Sunday.
The one constant for the Giants is QB Eli Manning, who will start his 111th consecutive game -the longest-running streak in the league at this point. Eli has several new pieces on offense: C David Baas, TE Jake Ballard and FB Henry Hynoski are new starters.
Bass will be flanked by guards Chris Snee and David Diehl, who is shifting from LT. That spot is being filled by Will Beatty. Kareem McKenzie, who started all 16 games last year, is back at RT.
Hakeem Nicks and Mario Maningham are the wideouts with Domenik Hixon and Victor Cruz filling the slot.
In the backfield, Brandon Jacobs and Ahmad Bradshaw will be spelled by Danny Ware and explosive rookie Da’Rel Scott.
On defense, the Giants are missing DE Osi Umenyiora (knee) and rookie CB Prince Amukamara for the start of the season. CB Terrell Thomas and MLB Jon Goff will both miss the season with knee injuries.
With Cofield gone and rookie Marvin Austin (torn pec) also out for the season, second-year DT Linval Joseph will rotate with veterans Rocky Bernard and Jimmy Kennedy on the interior of the line. Jason Pierre-Paul starts for Osi; Aaron Ross will assume Thomas’ spot and rookie Greg Jones will attempt to fill the void left by Goff’s injury.
Michael Boley returns as the WILL LB and Mathias Kiwanuka starts the year at SAM. Corey Webster is back at CB and Pro Bowler Antrel Rolle will be joined by Kenny Phillips at the safety position.
The Giants still have enough to compete, folks. Just take a look around the league and you’ll see that every team has issues….

Injuries are a part of the game. When they happen, there’s two things you can’t change: what happened and why. Giants’ captain Justin Tuck knows that as well as anyone…
It really doesn’t do us any good to ask questions like why. It is not going to bring them back and it is not going to help us deal with the hole that those people being absent presents. We are not going to pity ourselves because those teams we are playing this year definitely aren’t. You have to move forward.
Does it hurt? Absolutely but every team has to go through this and every team is going to have injuries. Every team is going to have people go down but the teams that bounce back are the teams you see in the playoffs and competing for a championship every year.
