Vinny DiTrani on his blog for The Record reports that the Giants were willing to offer their first-round pick (No. 31) for Falcons CB DeAngelo Hall, but according to sources backed off when the Falcons wanted RB Danny Ware as well.

When the Giants refused to offer Ware, Atlanta came back with a request for the No. 1 and OL Grey Ruegamer instead, but by then the Giants got cold feet over the hit Hall would put on their salary cap.

Falcons Trade DeAngelo Hall To Raiders

According to Chris Mortensen of ESPN.com, the Falcons have reached an agreement in principle that will send cornerback DeAngelo Hall to the Raiders for their second-round pick in 2008 draft, pending the Raiders finalizing a contract with Hall. He is close to agreeing to a contract with the Raiders that will pay him just below what Asante Samuel signed with the Eagles, which was a six-year, $57 million deal with $20 million guaranteed.

Hall, 24, was drafted 8th overall by the Falcons in 2003 and has recorded 17 interceptions over four seasons in Atlanta.

Update - 8:23 p.m. - The Atlanta Journal-Constitution quotes Hall, who is denying that he has been traded to Oakland and that “somebody’s throwing something out there.”

Marcus TrufantBob Glauber of Newsday notes that in addition to Falcons cornerback DeAngelo Hall, the Giants are also showing interest in trading for Seahawks cornerback Marcus Trufant. The Seahawks designated Trufant as their franchise player earlier this week and have exclusive negotiating rights with him for the 2008 season, but still reserve the right to trade him.

Trufant, 27, recorded 85 tackles with a career high 7 interceptions last year with Seattle.

Hall Feels Betrayed By Falcons

Mike Garafolo of the Star Ledger is reporting that several teams other than the Giants have heavy interest in Atlanta Falcons CB DeAngelo Hall including the Redskins, Buccaneers, Dolphins and Cowboys.

“I wanted to stay,” Hall said. “I don’t want to stay now. … It’s a little bit of a betrayal. I feel like these guys kind of stabbed me in the back.”

With those words, Hall likely stamped his ticket out of Atlanta — perhaps as soon as Friday, when the new league year begins and trades are once again permitted to be made…

New Falcons GM Thomas Dimitroff told Garafolo via email that “There is no chance we will trade for JS,” a reference to Shockey that conveniently left Hall out of the equation.

In the New York Post, Paul Schwartz writes that Hall told reporters at the Combine he will not play again for the Falcons and called it “a compliment” that the Giants have expressed interest in him.

Hall is one heck of a football player, and would be an absolute steal. And I agree with other posters, if I were Reese I would throw in a 4th rounder to seal it.

Giants Willing To Trade For DeAngelo Hall

According to Mike Garafolo of the Star-Ledger, the Giants are prepared to trade the #31 overall pick to the Atlanta Falcons in exchange for cornerback DeAngelo Hall.

Hall, 24, was drafted 8th overall by the Falcons in 2003 and has recorded 17 interceptions over four seasons in Atlanta. He is due $4.22 million in 2008.

The Giants were reportedly hoping to make a run at Marcus Trufant of the Seahawks or Nnamdi Asomugha of the Raiders, but both players were franchised by their respective teams.

In a loss to the Panthers in September, he drew three penalties on Carolina’s game-tying drive and then got into a shouting match with coach Bobby Petrino on the sideline. Hall was fined $100,000 and benched for the first quarter of the next week’s game for the incident.

The article also states that the team may be able to shed the $1.47 million in salary that Sam Madison is owed this upcoming season by releasing him. Backup cornerback R.W. McQuarters, who is scheduled to earn $2.525 million in salary, is expected to be released, possibly as soon as this week.
