TE Darcy Johnson Fully Recovered

Vinny DiTrani on his Giants blog for The Record reports that Darcy Johnson is fully recovered from the knee injury that sat him for all of last season.
At 6′5″, 270 pounds, he is a formidable blocker. Along with Jeremy Shockey and Kevin Boss, the Giants should have a strong core of tight ends. DiTrani makes the case for the Giants keeping Shockey.
Who needs Jeremy Shockey? The answer: the Giants, and they would be silly to think otherwise. They won the Super Bowl despite averaging just 3.5 yards per carry in the post-season compared to the 4.4 they averaged in the 14 games Shockey played during the regular season. He still is a factor in the short-to-medium passing game and ALWAYS draws double coverage once the Giants get into their opponent’s territory.
Despite all the reports, I still believe Shockey will remain a Giant. They are a better team with him in the mix of their offense. Some may spin Eli’s comments about needing Shockey as fodder to keep his trade value high, being the good solider/public relations mouth for the team. I don’t buy it, I believe Eli wants Shockey back and while I believe he’s overrated among the elite tight ends in the league, he’s a playmaker the Giants would be foolish to lose.
