Losing Faith in Brad

...posted by David Jacks...

According to ESPN, the Dallas Cowboys are losing faith in the oldest quarterback in the league, Brad Johnson. The Cowboys won, despite gaining only 172 yards on offense, the lowest output in a Cowboys victory.

Despite Brad’s struggles, which includes the inability to get the ball deep, it is unlikely that Dallas turns to Brooks Bollinger. Bollinger is a far more mobile quarterback, but he lacks experience and has struggled in his time in the NFL. The thing is, having TO and Roy Williams with Johnson as your QB is like owning two 50 inch, LCD, flat screen TVs, and losing the remote being forced to watch Dora the Explorer. Fortunately for Dallas, they get their remote back after the bye week.

Roy Williams Traded To Cowboys

NFL Network’s Adam Schefter reports that the Cowboys have acquired Roy Williams from the Lions for “at least” one first-round pick.

Sorry that this is turning into Cowboys Football Blog over here but this is all significant to the NFC East and the Giants, and the Cowboys are just incredibly busy this week. Mostly for the wrong reasons.

Hat tip to Gary Grund for the news.

Romo Out Four Weeks

The Cowboys added injury to insult today with news that Tony Romo could miss up to four weeks due to a injury to his pinkie finger in yesterday’s loss to Arizona.

Brad Johnson will take over at quarterback for Romo.

Do you think Michael Strahan was jinxing the Cowboys when he made his prediction. In any case, thanks Michael! The NFC East is starting to seperate the men from the boys.

Cowboys’ Roy Williams Fractures Forearm

According to NFL.com, Dallas Cowboy Roy Williams will miss at least 4 weeks with a fractured forearm.

Williams is known for his flagrant “horse collar” tackles. So much so, in fact, that the rule that disallows this type of tackles is often referred to as “The Roy Williams Rule.”

I don’t wish for any rival player to get injured, but file this under “K” for “Karma.” Still, I’d rather beat them at full strength, so…here’s to a quick recovery…?

Know Your Rivals: Cowboys Sign Hamlin

Dallas Cowboys
According to the Associated Press, the Dallas Cowboys have signed Pro Bowl safety Ken Hamlin to a six-year, $39 million contract that included $15 million guaranteed with a $9 million signing bonus.

Hamlin was a second-round pick by the Seattle Seahawks in the 2003 NFL Draft and signed on with the Dallas Cowboys as a free agent on a one-year, $2.5 million deal. The 27-year old safety had a career high 5 interceptions to go along with 102 tackles during the 2007 campaign.

Philadelphia Eagles
Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb wrote in his latest blog entry on Yardbarker that his shoulder that caused him to shut down during June passing camp is fine. “I’m feeling great, the shoulder is fine, and I can’t wait to get started this season.”

McNabb is working out in Arizona with fellow Eagles Brian Dawkins, LJ Smith, Jason Avant, Hank Baskett and Lorenzo Booker.

Washington Redskins
Redskins head coach Jim Zorn wants runningback Clinton Portis to carry the offense in 2008, especially during the opening month of the season, according to the Washington Times. Having Portis carry the offense for the first month will allow Jason Campbell to become more accustomed to the new passing game that Zorn is implementing into the team. As noted in the last Know Your Rivals post, Campbell is adjusting to his seventh offensive system in eight years.
