The Giants have now announced that they have placed defensive end Osi Umenyiora on injured reserve, ending his 2008 season.Osi Umenyiora

The team also waived injured wide receiver Craphonso Thorpe and were awarded wide receiver Marcus Monk off waiver from the Chicago Bears.

Monk, 22, was a seventh-round pick in the 2008 NFL Draft by the Bears. In 43 career games at Arkansas, Monk caught 138 passes for 2,151 yards and a school record 27 touchdowns during his tenure with the Razorbacks. Monk also has tremendous size, standing at 6-6, making him a nice potential end zone target if he makes the team, but my money is on the practice squad, if anything.

The Giants have announced that they have signed sixth-round draft choice DE Robert Henderson and have claimed WR Craphonso Thorpe off waivers from the Jacksonville Jaguars. They also waived defensive back Miguel Scott.

Thorpe, 24, was drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs in the fourth round of the 2005 NFL Draft. In his short time in the league, Thorpe has already been with six teams, starting with the Chiefs, then the Texans, Lions, Colts, Jaguars and now Giants.
