Butler Tendered At Lowest Amount

Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News reports that the Giants have made a qualifying offer to safety James Butler, who becomes a restricted free agent Friday. The team gave him the low tender amount, which is $927,000.

Since Butler went undrafted, the Giants would not receive any draft pick in return for compensation if another team made a higher bid for him. However, the Giants would hold the right to match any offer.

The deadline for making qualifying offers to restricted free agents is tomorrow. QB Jared Lorenzen, WR Jamaar Taylor and DE Adrian Awasom are the other restricted free agents that the Giants have.

Officials from the Arizona Department of Public Safety say Awasom was taken into custody sometime within the last 24 hours.

The 24-year-old defensive end was already on the injured reserve list and was not scheduled to play on Sunday.
