Patriots’ Late Surge Can’t Bridle Blue Enthusiasm

...posted by John Fennelly...

QBs Eli Manning and David Carr went a perfect 9-for-9 while passing for a combined 229 yards and 3 TDs in the first quarter last night in Foxbourough.

The Giants led 21-0 before the Patriots could get their cleats on.

Wide receiver questions still remain, but the picture became a bit clearer.  The Giants’ little wide-out-by-committee may not be the worst thing in the world after all.

The deep passing game continues to emerge.  New England appeared braced for the Giants running attack, and Manning and Carr took full advantage with big plays through the air.

Sinorice Moss re-established himself with 2 TD catches and Hakeem Nicks took a Carr pass 64-yards to the house in relatively easy fashion.

Mario Manningham had a 35-yard reception. Domenik Hixon had a 38-yarder and Shawn Bodiford caught one for 39 yards.

The tight ends had some large gains themselves.  Kevin Boss went 44 yards on a nice catch-and run.  Rookie Travis Beckum joined in with a 29-yard reception.

On defense, the Giants were not up against Tom Brady and Co. but only allowed a FG in the first half.  Very few of the backups managed to establish themselves in the second half.

The Pats won 38-27.

The next step will be the cuts, due tomorrow at 4pm.

Read: Highlights from Morning Practice

...posted by Jon Schneider...

Kenny PhillipsEli looked a little shaky in morning practice, throwing three interceptions and a few wobblers.

Sinorice Moss made a nice catch deep down the sideline from David Carr. Nice way to start Sinorice. (My wide receiver x-factor for the Gmen)

Kenny Phillips had two interceptions (one a tip from CB Corey Webster and both off the hands of Eli)

Aaron Ross also had a pick

David Tyree dropped a pass from Eli.

Penciled in starter WR Steve Smith had a nice catch down the sideline from  LT rook William Beatty was beat quiet convincingly by Osi.

Cofield and Mckenzie had a little trouble with the snap count early, both going offsides on simultaneous plays, but then figured themselves out

Note: Justin Tuck did not participate in morning practice but will be in the afternooon session. Also both, Umenyiora and Cofield will not practice in the afternoon.

NY Dailynews reporter Ralph Vacchiano also said that as per the first morning’s workouts, QB Rhett Bomar has the advantage over Andre’ Woodson. Bomar seemed to be making “crisp, straight, spiral throws.”
