The NFL recently announced that the Giants will not be visiting the Panthers in the first week of preseason and now the team will head to Detroit on August 7th instead.
The league said the change was made to accommodate stadium availability and local television partner commitments.
The Panthers will still face a quarterback named Manning, but only now, it’s Peyton, not Eli.
Looks like the Giants should have a pretty soft first couple of weeks, against the Redskins, Rams and Eagles before the bye week. The Giants played better on the road than at home last year, but I see that as more an anomaly and a symptom of a team that felt it had something to prove, and just happened to be on the road while doing it.
Their Monday Night Football comes on October 13th in Cleveland, as well as prime time games against Dallas and Philadelphia plus their Thursday night, Sept. 4, opener against Washington in prime time. There is always a chance some of their late season games will be flexed to NBC.
The Giants will face a stretch of NFC East opponents in the form of Washington-Philadelphia-Dallas from Nov. 30 through Dec. 14. This will mark the first time the Giants have played NFC East foes in three consecutive games since 2001.
