With the draft set to commence, the Giants jumped the gun and signed 12-year DT vet Shaun Rogers to add depth to the defensive line and perhaps signaling they have little intention of bolstering that need through the draft.
From Ralph Vacchiano:
I’m kind of honored and I appreciated them holding me in a regard enough to put me in along those guys,” Rogers said. “Those guys are most definitely top-notch pass rushers, defensive linemen right now, especially in their prime. I’m just happy to be a part of that group, those guys are going to help me out and hopefully I can help them out.”
We’ll have to wait and see how this impacts the Giants draft strategies this weekend. It is an interesting twist in a weekend sure to have many.

With the Carolina recently signing Mike Tolbert, the Panthers now have a legitimate logjam at running back and reports are that they could be shopping Jonathan Stewart.
So, should the Giants get involved?
Well, with the Giants saying good bye to Brandon Jacobs, the team does have a need for a running back to compliment Ahmad Bradshaw, especially a strong north to south runner like Stewart. Stewart and the Giants could be the perfect marriage.
However, you have to look at the logistics of it and see if a trade is even plausible. Stewart is in the last year of his rookie contract and the Panthers would likely be looking at high draft pick or a combination of picks. Len Pasquarelli of the Sports XChange cites that Stewart would have to agree to a new deal before he gets traded.

After reaching the summit, we Giants fans are finding it hard to come down from the high of claiming another Super Bowl title. It almost seems surreal.
If you take a second to think about it, it’s pretty astonishing to fully realize what the Giants accomplished this year after what this team went through. From all the injuries, contract squabbles and general inconsistency, the Giants still had the intestinal fortitude to believe in each other and dig down deep and come together late in the season.
With that said, this season was filled with many highs and lows. While it’s a hard to knock the Giants after winning Super Bowl XLVI, the season was an unbalanced one with many good, bad and ugly moments.
So, let’s recap the season with your last edition of the good, the bad and the ugly.

Well the day is finally upon us: Super Bowl Sunday.
No more time for talk and hype. It’s all about the game now and who can put together the best 60 minutes of football. The Giants and the Patriots have a history together, but on Sunday it will all about whose the better team that day. It’s clichéd talk, I know, but it doesn’t make it any less true.
There are many storylines and juicy plotlines to dissect. So, let’s not wait any longer and get into the five things to watch for on Super Bowl Sunday

While the Giants and the Patriots’ offenses revolve mostly on their prolific passing games, the key to victory in the Super Bowl may just come down on who can rush the ball more effectively.
The Pats and the Giants don’t particularly feature strong rushing attacks. During the regular season, the Giants ranked last in the league in rushing (89.2 YPG) while the Patriots were not much better, coming in at 20th in the league (110.3 YPG). Both teams are also middle of the pack in defending the run, as the Giants rank 19th in the league (121.3 YPG) while the Patriots are slightly better at 17th (117.1 YPG)
Both teams run the ball by committee with the Giants trotting out Ahmad Bradshaw and Brandon Jacobs to move the chains while the Patriots can turn to BenJarvus Green-Ellis, Danny Woodhead and even rookie Stevan Ridley.

Giants’ defense: your mission, should you decide to accept it, is to get to Tom Brady and apply pressure while rattling his psyche. If you do this, then you can become Super Bowl Champions.
They did it once before, so why not do it again?
It is no secret that to beat the Patriots, you have to take out Tom Brady.
“The way to kill the snake is to take off his head,” Justin Tuck so eloquently put. “The way to kill an offense as potent as that one is making sure you take care of Brady. Our defensive front will put a lot of pressure on itself to make sure that we do our best to get after him.”
In Super Bowl XLII, the Giants relentlessly put pressure on Brady. On that day the Giants sacked Brady five times while hitting and harassing him countless other times. For a guy who threw for 4,806 yards and 50 TD’s in 2007, Brady only passed for 266 yards and one touchdown when the teams met in the Super Bowl four years ago.

The Giants are going to the Super Bowl!
Let that sink in for a moment. For a team that was 7-7 and fresh off a humiliating loss to the Washington Redskins, who here though that reaching the playoffs, let alone making it to the Super Bowl was even remotely possible?
Now the Giants are Super Bowl bound with a rematch set with the New England Patriots. Things can’t much better than they are right now. Everyone in Giants’ Land should be on Cloud 9.
So, before we concentrate on the Pat’s, let’s take a look back at Sunday’s classic victory and assess the good, the bad and the ugly.

As the Giants close in on their goal of going to the Super Bowl, only one hurdle remains: beating the San Francisco 49ers on the road.
The Giants have withstood many challenges this year and have persevered to play in the NFC Championship. It’s time to finish what you started. As they say in Big Blue land, we are “all in” now!
The 49ers bring an athletic, punishing defense to the table and they will be a tough bunch to beat on their home field. Expect this game to be won in the trenches, and as Chris Canty points out, you may just witness a bloodbath.
You have to leave it all on the field now.
So, here are five things to watch for in the NFC Championship between the New York Giants and the San Francisco 49ers.

While the 49ers and the Ravens might have more complete defenses and the Patriots may lay claim for having the league’s best offense, but out of the teams still left in the playoffs the Giants could conceivably be the most complete team.
As the Giants come together late in the season they are firing on all cylinders, both offensively and defensively. They are proving to be a matchup nightmare for opposing teams, as teams will have to play a complete game on offense and defense to stop the Giants.
On offense, Eli Manning and company are putting points on the board with ease. In their last four games (including the playoffs) the Giants are scoring a little more than 30 points per game. That is about six points more than they averaged during the regular season (24.6).
