“I understand that Tiki made his decision, and he has no regrets. If you’re not here, you almost have to convince yourself it doesn’t bother you even if it does. But he says it doesn’t, and I believe him.”

Strahan said he is not yet sure if he will retire after the season, regardless of the outcome of the Super Bowl.

“This is obviously the biggest game that he has ever played in,” Peyton said. “It was certainly the biggest game I had ever played in last year. But I feel he is ready for the opportunity, although I have to say that I feel strongly that this will not be the last Super Bowl that he will play in.”

“I just think he has what it takes to lead his team to championships,” Peyton said. “I have always thought he has that, even before what has happened these last three weeks.”

Peyton also said that his and Eli’s biggest personal achievement was recently teaching their father, Archie, how to send text messages in shorthand on his phone.

“I don’t think there’s any surprise why the team that goes to the Super Bowl and loses traditionally has a letdown the next year. Not only the fact that you got there and you lose the big game, but your offseason is a lot shorter, and you’ve got .nothing really to show for it.”

“I want everybody to focus on the fact that it’s a game, and that we have this one more game. Don’t just be happy about being in the Super Bowl.”

Michael Strahan, Toomer, and offensive lineman Grey Ruegamer are the only Giants who have played in a Super Bowl before.

An oddity is that Eli has yet to throw an interception in these playoffs. That’s similar to what another Giants’ quarterback, Phil Simms, did about twenty years ago. Simms threw 22 interceptions in 1986, but none in the postseason. In fact, his accuracy in Super Bowl XXI is still the best ever.

Could this be a positive omen for the suddenly surging Eli?

Giants offensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo was a candidate for the job. Garafolo writes regarding Spagnuolo…

A few weeks ago, when his name popped up in the chase for the job, I mentioned Spags likely realizes the pace at which the ascension to head coach should occur. And that means he knows when he’s ready and that’s when he’d shift his focus to making a push for the next level. I didn’t get the sense that was the case here.
And once again, the impression I’ve been getting is that Spags isn’t upset he’s missing out on these jobs. Unlike some coordinators in this league, he’s been all about getting his current job done, not posturing for his next one.
