Friday Morning Report: Now Let’s Keep it Together

by John Fennelly on February 10th, 2012 at 5:38 am

The Giants won the Super Bowl, and like all teams who have won before them, they must find a way to keep the momentum going. The other 31 teams in the league will all be lining up to take a shot at them this year.

Their schedule in 2012 is not an easy one (when is it ever?). The NFC East promises to be better – there’s even talk of Peyton Manning landing in Washington – and the Giants have  San Francisco, Pittsburgh, Baltimore, Green Bay, Atlanta and New Orleans on their schedule in addition to the their regular rigor.

GM Jerry Reese will calmly go about his business. He knows his way works in this league and although he’ll make changes to the roster, he won’t change his own methods.  He explained his modus operandi…..

“We always try to do what’s right for the New York Giants. We try to make good football decisions. It would be great to look like you’re really smart in the offseason and go out and make a lot of splashy moves so you guys can write nice-going things about our personnel staff, but our goal is to make good football decisions and that’s what we try to do every year. We don’t just think about our personnel for the current year. We think a couple of years down the line and that’s important. I think fans think about the here and now, what our team looks like now. We think about that as well, obviously, because you want to win every year, but we definitely think a couple of years down the road a little bit in respect to personnel.”

Speaking of that here and now, Reese is aware his methods reeled in some the game’s best players and he plans to keep them.

“Wins always make you love each other,” Reese told reporters yesterday. “So that’s a common denominator – wins. Every team is different, as you know. Every offseason the team changes, but there will be a strong core of the players – our current players – coming back. I can tell you that. But there will definitely be some changes.”

Peyton Manning in DC will never happen….I honestly believe there is no way he would play in same division as Eli…plus they why would he pick DC? he lands in AZ in my humble opinion! But if he does who cares…he will never be the same peyton manning anyways! That Manning is forever in the history books!

I intially thought that, but brothers love to compete against each other.  Peyton subconsciously may want to re-establish his Alpha within the family.  I think if Peyton thinks Washington is the best set-up for him, Eli’s presence will not hold him back, even if it presents a conundrum for their parents’ rooting interests.

If I’m Washington, I go as far as trading my 1st and 2nd plus next years 1st to move up to #2 (from the Rams) and take RG3.  That’s a more long term solution.  But then again, when has Daniel Snyder EVER thought long-term?

Manningham is a free agent this year, needs a contract as does his other jet-blue teammates..

”JET-blue”?  Leave the JET part out – that’s blasphemy.
