Jacobs Apologizes, But Other Giants Crossed Line, Too

by John Fennelly on February 9th, 2012 at 7:30 am

The Giants were excited to bring home the Lombardi Trophy this week, but the celebration took a little shine off the victory for this writer.

The “I Got a Ring” nonsense led by a reserve player (Andre Brown) who has never played a down for the team, was fun but a bit embarrassing.

Several shots taken in public at rivals and opponents were completely unnecessary, also. I’m sure John Mara, Jerry Reese and Tom Coughlin would all agree. It’s not the Giant way.

First, Co-owner Steve Tisch took a shot a Dallas, then Justin Tuck took a backhanded swipe at the Jets. But before that, RB Brandon Jacobs openly criticized Tom Brady’s wife, Gisele Bundchen, for complaining about Patriot receivers dropping passes in the Super Bowl. He apologized yesterday. From Pro Football Talk….

On Tuesday, Giants running back Brandon Jacobs told reporters that Tom Brady’s wife, Gisele Bundchen, should “stay cute and shut up.” On Wednesday, Jacobs apologized for the remark.

Appearing on ESPN Radio’s Doug Gottlieb Show, Jacobs said that he shouldn’t have said what he said.

“Given the fact that it’s a colleague of mine’s wife, I do apologize for saying that, because I shouldn’t have said that,” Jacobs said. “It’s his wife and I should respect that just as much as anyone else.”

Jacobs’ contrition possibly was fueled by the fact that he could soon be a free agent, if the Giants opt to release him in lieu of paying a $500,000 roster bonus. Running his mouth could limit his options.

Could not agree more as to Jacobs and Tisch, and maybe even Tuck’s “our house” remark. But the “I gotta ring” stuff was purely sponataneous and good fun. So flat out disagree there. Sort of like Strahan’s “we’re going to stomp you out” thing. Just fun stuff which could only offend a hyper sensitive individual.

Jacobs is a mental case hope we release him.

wow everyone get your panties out of your crack.  all the comments were fine.  Tuck was amazing, the stadium shook when he did that.  It is the Giants house and the fans deserved that.  Its time to shut up people, especially those pathetic jets and jets fan, and winning a super bowl is the best time to talk.  Unlike that fat piece of s*** in green, we win then talk, and we win big.  Everyone get over yourselves and enjoy the win, stop trying to find something petty to whine about.

I LOVE that Justin Tuck rubbed it in Rex Ryan’s face. Love it!!!! I feel bad for Jet fans that have to take the abuse on behalf of their big moth coach. From Rex’s book:

“When people ask me what it’s like to share New York
with the Giants, my response is always I am not sharing it with them –
they are sharing it with me,” Ryan writes. “Some people like to say the
Giants are the big brother team and the Jets are the little brother team. I know it’s going to piss off every Giants fan to hear this, but here you go: I really don’t care. We came to New York City to be the best team in the NFL,
not just the best team in New York City. And I have news for you: We
are the better team. We’re the big brother. People might say they are
the big, bad Giants, but we are not the same old Jets.”

“It seems clear that right now we are the better team and we are
going to remain the better team for the next 10 years,” Ryan added.
“Whether you like it or not, those are the facts and that’s what is
going to happen…. We are going to take over the town whether the Giants like it or not, so those fans on the fence that like both teams are going to be Jets fans in the end.”

Andre Brown might bave never played a down, but you are a writer and couldn’t even hold his jock strap.  Why are you critizing how he enjoys HIS championship.  On top of that last I checked he was joined by every skill position player on the team in his chant. Team Captain Tuck.  Rolle.  Jacobs. Mara, Reese, Coughlin… you know what they all have in common: none of them were ever players.  The old guard needs to stop trying to tell the new guys how to act. We aren’t the yankees, this is a team who use to be led by Lawerence “Sex Offender” Taylor.

and another thing.  Tisch is our owner… I don’t know why some old guard like to focus more on Mara than Tisch.  But this guy came in and continued the winning ways and probably the one responsible of getting the job for Reese and not giving the franchise to Chris out of nepotism.  We should be grateful to have owners like Tisch AND the Mara’s.

Unless the Giants intend to spend their first round pick on a future feature back, the Giants need Brandon Jacobs to compliment Ahmad Bradshaw. Both of them are physical runners that keep the other playing well.

Yeah Im gonna agree with the commenters on here and make it 7 for 7 in saying with the exception of BJ being a blow hard (stop me when I say something new) the Tuck comment was beautiful. I know we all say ppl shouldnt sink to other people’s level but screw that. He didn’t go on stage and say “F the Jets. Those busters stink. Tell Fat Rex to kiss my ass.” No. He just stated the obvious. It is the Giants house and will be until Tom and Eli are gone. The Brown thing. Practice squad players serve a unique roll on most teams. To discount his contribution is unfair. Sure he hasn’t directly effected a game this year but he has contributed in other ways and that shouldnt be poo pooed. Tisch owns the team and he can say what he wants. To the victor goes the spoils.

Completely disagree fennelly. They won the Super Bowl and they are having fun. What Andre Brown has done is show up and practice everyday with his team and work as hard as anyone. Tuck was speaking the truth and did it with a smart, witty comment, nothing wrong with that. These guys worked hard all year and had alot of people talk garbage about them and they have the right to speak there mind, they aren’t making the organization look bad. Same with the Gronk at the after party, WHO CARES, he had a few drinks and released his emotions and cameras happen to see it. As for all of the Jacobs haters, whether he ran for tons of yards and TDs he brings span attitude that will be missed. For a number 2 back his is very good, and brings it hard.

Between Rex and Mrs. Brady, Jacobs keeps telling people to shut up – as if HE’S the only person in the world entitled to recklessly run his mouth.  Amazing.
