WOW! Giants WIN Super Bowl XLVI, 21-17

by John Fennelly on February 5th, 2012 at 10:15 pm

If you wrote this script and handed it to a Hollywood producer, they’d have you escorted from the building.

The Giants won their second Super Bowl in five years tonight, 21-17, over the New England Patriots in such a thrilling manner, it is hard to gather all of the info and get it into one post. Down 17-9 in the 3rd Qtr, the Giants scored the final 12 points of the game and then sealed the deal by holding off Tom Brady’s Hail Mary attempt in the final seconds.

The Giants battled toe-to-toe with Bill Belichick’s bunch for sixty full minutes, ending the game almost identical fashion to their 17-14 win four years ago.

There were no losers tonight. Belichick, never one to show emotion, embraced Giants’ head coach Tom Coughlin at midfield after the game like two spent boxers who had nothing left to give. It was a great game.

QB Eli Manning (30/40, 296 yds, 1 TD) was named the MVP, the second such honor of his career.  WR Mario Manningham had several big catches and WR Hakeem Nicks (10 catches, 109 yds) played through shoulder pain all night.

WR Victor Cruz had a TD catch, but his main purpose was to draw attention away from Nicks and Manningham. He did just that. RB Ahmad Bradshaw, who did not play in Week 9 vs New England, had 72 yards rushing and a TD (even though he’d take that one back).

On defense, the Giants’ rush was all around Brady, only to be flustered most times but stopped him when it counted. LB Michael Boley had nine tackles to lead the D, but it was a group effort that helped win this game.

The Giants are champs tonight, folks. Drink it in!

    I’m still here El Guapo!

What a game.  From losing 4 DBs, 2 LBs, and a DL in the preseason to Super Bowl Champs?  Unbelievable season, WHAT A RIDE!

Stunning win by the giants. Amazing.

Now, when will negative nelly Dan Orlando make another insipid post with feeble pop cultural references and unearned confidence? Surely he is unhappy with something about this game.

Did anyone catch Chris Collinsworth’s comment in the fourth quarter?  It was amazing.  Totally unscripted he blurted out, “They should just let these two teams play every game.”  I couldn’t believe he said it, but it was an AMAZING commentary — an amazing slice of enthusiasm and candor from an announcer.

I can’t believe it guys..I am in shock! I have never experienced anything like this..4 years ago was not even like this for me..I just cannot believe it!! This was the greatest run ever!! That game was the most gut wrenching game I have ever experienced! I could die a happy man right now. This team has more heart and character then any team I have ever seen. I am so emotionally spent right now..I was up out of my seat for most of that game..By the 3rd quarter I never sat back down again. I could barely breath during that last drive..After that hail marry fell it was the most amazing feeling ever!!! Its hard to even digest this and put it into words..I don’t know how John can even post so well right now..People were texting me and i could not even type..

We did it guys, WE DID IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:D

    SUPER BOWL CHAMPION NY GIANTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What a disgrace having Tike Barber as a commentator on the after game show!!!   What genius thought of having this once great Giant turned Mr. Putting Down Coughlin and Manning?  He can’t get a job anywhere else so i hope SNY didn’t pay him too much.  Once i saw him i immediately turned on ESPN.

Who would have imagined after that Redskins game almost 2 months ago that we would win the super bowl. What an incredible run. So much like 2007 it really is scary. I’m so happy for coach Coughlin too. What a job he did bringing this team back from the dead this year. He is now up there with Parcells with 2 super bowls. Be proud Giant fans! See you all at the parade. Oh, and how about that dream team! Sorry, had to say it!

What can you say?  Nothing short of amazing.  What a game.  What a team, with a capital “T”.  A few brief observations:

Part of the game ball should go to Hynoski, who blocked well all game, proved to be an important pass outlet a couple of times, and oh yeah, recovered a fumble.

Nicks.  What can you say about this guy.  Tough as nails in traffic.  Catches most everything thrown his way.

Chase Blackburn.  Is it a coincidence that defense came together when they brought him back?  I think not.  Another big play out of Chase.  I know that we have some young studs on the D-Line for next year, but I hope he’s with the team again.

Lastly, a big chunk of the game ball to Jerry Reese, who once again has shown that he’s he’s one of the smartest men in the room.  He put together a hell of a team that came together at just the right time.

I wonder if any other player will ever score a Super Bowl-winning touchdown while squatting backwards on his haunches at the goal line, trying his best NOT to go into the end zone?
