Super Bowl XLVI Thursday Quotebook

Here are some prime quotes from yesterday’s Giants and Patriots media sessions:

Giants’ C David Baas on Pats’ DT Vince Wilfork’s athleticism….“He is big, strong, he can be athletic, he can move. You think you have him and all of a sudden he’ll make a move and get around you. You saw him in Baltimore just do one move one way and then go back the other way. The center kind of got thrown off and he made his way around and sacked the quarterback. He is just one of those guys that you just have to keep your hands on and you can’t let him be disruptive because he is one of those players that can be.”

Pats WR Deion Branch on being one of the few remaining members of the team from the Patriots’ last Super Bowl….“What is it, seven or eight guys from the last Super Bowl? We all share a major bond. We want to also do that with this group of guys. I think once you be a part of something like this, be a part of a Super Bowl, you have this friendship forever. There’s a lot of football. We were just talking yesterday about how long we’ve been playing ball. We’ve been running around in meetings since July. Had we not had a lockout, it would be probably since last March. That’s a long time, but I don’t accept that each and every year to be a part of this, be one of the last two guys playing in this game.”

Giants’ OL Chris Snee on the number of fellow Boston College players who are in the Super Bowl….“My friends are very excited. I’ve seen a lot of stuff on the BC website, so I know they’re behind me. It’s exciting to be here with these guys. I played with Mathias (Kiwanuka) in particular. It really hurt Mathias to play in this game four years ago. Obviously, he got hurt that season. I’m definitely excited for those guys and excited for the opportunity.”

Pats’ WR Chad Ochocinco on if there’s any disappointment he didn’t play a larger role in the offense this season….“No. I’m not disappointed at all. Yesterday, I compared it to a year of marriage. The first year of marriage is always rough, and you have to feel each other out and that’s what we did this year. Going into next year I think it’ll be a lot better.”

Giants’ CB Corey Webster on if there is a special bond among the 15 Giant players that won Super Bowl XLII….“I don’t know if there is a bond, but we did something special. It was a different team. The same thing that we did in 2007, we would like to do the same thing this year. It helped everyone be familiar with what is going on with the week and tell the guys who haven’t been here what to expect, what the expectations of the week are and how to stay focused at the task at hand. It’s a business trip and hopefully we’ll come out here and win a ball game.”

Pats’ OC Bill O’Brien on his past few weeks with the Patriots after being named the new Penn State head coach….“It’s been challenging. It’s a lot about the people on both sides. There is a really strong staff at Penn State and an excellent staff here in New England who have helped out a great deal. The administrative people that have been assigned to me are helping out a great deal with emails and answering phone calls and things like that. It’s more about the people on both sides of it that have really helped me during the transition.”

Giants’ GM Jerry Reese on what over-arching philosophies he uses for the organization….“Our over-arching philosophy is ‘find good players.’ That’s what’s most important. You try to get as many good players as you can. I don’t care what position they are, you try to stack as many good players as you can. We don’t go into (the draft) and say, ‘We’re looking for a defensive end, we’re looking for a quarterback.’ We’re looking for good players. Then after we get good players, we fill in around and get players in the holes that we need. That’s our formula.”
