Monday Morning Update: It Begins

by John Fennelly on January 30th, 2012 at 6:10 am

The Patriots arrived in Indianapolis yesterday afternoon, leaving behind approximately 25k well-wishers at Gillette Stadium.

“It was a pep rally,” Pats’ QB Tom Brady said plainly as per Phil Perry of CSSNE.Com.

“Certainly the players were excited,” Brady added. “I know the 25,000 fans that were there were excited as well. It’s great to see the support. We get great support home and away. Hopefully we’ll see some Patriots jerseys in the stands next Sunday night.”

Head coach Bill Belichick said the team decided to hit Indy on Sunday to normalize their routine. They will practice today and take Tuesday off, resuming workouts on Wednesday.

“It’s nice to be in Indianapolis. It’s about the nicest I’ve seen it here in February,” Belichick said in his presser last night. “It’s an honor to represent the AFC and New England in this game. A tremendous challenge here with the Giants. The Giants are a great football team.

They’ve done an outstanding job all year, particularly here at the end of the season. (Giants president and CEO) John Mara and his family – I have a close relationship with them – a lot of respect for their organization. (Giants head coach) Tom (Coughlin) and I are good friends, and we go back quite a ways. He and his staff have done a great job with his football team. They have a lot of good football players, they are well-coached, disciplined and tough. They have played very well over the last five weeks and during the course of the season as well, which we saw plenty of that during the regular season.

Looking forward to a good week of work here, a good opportunity to play against another great football team. Hopefully, we will be ready to go on Sunday night. We have a lot of work in front of us. I think our players are obviously excited to be here, looking forward to the challenge and we get to work tomorrow out on the field.”

The Giants will leave for Indy this morning and hold their first workout on Wednesday.

Our Gary Apple is in Indianapolis already, looking a bit chilly I might add, but the weather isn’t supposed to get in the way of any of the festivities this week. The game is indoors, as you already know…

So that’s what Bill looks like in a suit and tie.  I’m use to his hobo look on the sideline. I must say, I’m impressed.
