New York Giants Update for Jan 25

by John Fennelly on January 25th, 2012 at 5:30 am

Today is Wednesday and the Giants are off. They will begin practicing for the Super Bowl tomorrow and practice through Saturday. They are expected to arrive in Indianapolis on Monday and resume their regular weekly schedule (Tuesday off, Wed-Fri practice, Sat off).

QB Eli Manning addressed his teammates on Tuesday, stating that the Super Bowl was all business. Only 17 players remain from the team that faced the Patriots in 2007, so the message was aimed mainly at the 36 who were elsewhere back then.

“He just gave us a rundown of how things are going to go and the itinerary, travel and family and what not,” said LB Michael Boley, who was an Atlanta Falcon in 2007. “You hate meeting but obviously this is a meeting you are glad to have going to the Super Bowl. This is my first one so it is a joy.”

Notes

Carolina Panthers’ QB Cam Newton will replace Eli Manning on the NFC roster for this Sunday’s Pro Bowl game in Honolulu.  JPP, who was the other Giant voted in, will be replaced by Bears’ DE Julius Peppers.

Giants’ K Lawrence Tynes received a standing ovation at the Rangers-Winnepeg Jets game at Madison Square Garden last night. A clip of the winning FG from Sunday was shown on the big screen followed by a shot of Tynes in the the stands sporting his ring from ’07…

Rooney Mara, the daughter of Giants SVP Chris Mara and grandaughter of Wellington, was nominated for an Academy Award for Actress in a Leading Role for her work in the film The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.

Rooney had to learn how to kickbox and ride a motorcycle and do so many physical things to get ready for the film,” Chris Mara said as per Ian O’Connor of ESPN New York. “She showed a lot of toughness going through the whole experience, and she had a director, David Fincher, who was just like Tom Coughlin or Bill Parcells. He made her get through that role….It was a very tough role for her, and a lot of hard work went into it, so this is her Super Bowl.”
