No Debate Here: Giants Need Kevin Boss Back

by John Fennelly on July 29th, 2011 at 5:55 am

The Giants released FB Madison Hedgecock yesterday, meaning they either liked Bear Pascoe better back there, or they really love Henry Hynoski, the UDFA they plucked out of Pitt this week.

Let’s hope its the latter. If it is, that means Pascoe can move back to TE, a position the Giants have ZERO depth in at this very moment.

Kevin Boss, the Giants’ starting TE is currently a free agent, and he is no lock to return to the Giants. If he decides to go to a club closer to his Oregon base (Seattle, San Francisco), the Giants would have to better those offers to keep him.

With Ahmad Bradshaw, Steve Smith and others still to pay, this could pose a major problem for the Blue. Boss has stated he will come back to the Giants if they offered him the most money.

This does not sound very promising. The Giants simply cannot afford to let Boss walk away. TE is not a strength on this roster.

Pascoe has very little experience and Ohio State product Jake Ballard has even less. Travis Beckum, the other “TE” is not a tight end in the traditional sense.

Admittedly, Boss has had his injury woes – including several concussions – and his price should reflect that. He should be in the Giants’ price range.

But with so many small market team with cash to burn to get up the cap floor, the Giants may not be able to compete financially.

The Giants gave up on Jeremy Shockey several years back due to the fact that Boss had more upside going forward. That was a luxury back then. These days that luxury of depth no longer exists.

The GIants need Kevin Boss back.

The Giants don’t “need” Boss. The Giants need to make a move at TE. If Jerry Reese would like I could fax him a list of all the great FA and UDFA TEs out there. I’m just saying…

I like Boss, but saying he’d go to the Giants if they give him the most money is kind of obvious lol…  Zach Miller’s out there, but I’d imagine he’d be more pricey.  & not sure how he is as a blocker.

last year kind of sucked for Kevin,  but it was third down pass placement, not his hands, that were the problem, I can’t imagine him playing anywhere else…would he rather win in NY or make more money in Seattle/San Fran? Go for the win, Boss returns to NY.
