Giants Select RB Da’Rel Scott

by Rich Resch on April 30th, 2011 at 5:56 pm

With their final pick, the Giants have selected Maryland RB Da’Rel Scott in the seventh round.

Great Scott! As a Giants fan and Maryland alum, I love this pick.  In my first “mock dream draft” I had the Giants taking Scott in the sixth round, so he fell onto their laps in the seventh.

Here is what I wrote:

“The Giants never seem to have a true homerun threat at running back.  Even Tiki Barber and Ahmad Bradshaw had good, but not great speed.  I want a runningback that won’t get caught from behind.  Scott has true breakaway speed, running the fastest 40 time of any running back. He ran for 200 yards in the Military Bowl and scored a TD in the Senior Bowl.”

Finally G-Men get a speedster in the backfield with break away speed!

Great pick why. Way better than the third round reach.

aaaaaaah. Coulda been had as a UDFA. And plenty of more well rounded backs left undrafted. Not necessarily a bad pick. Not one that excites me. He’s also a fumbler, soooooo, here we go with that again. Ooooooooo. Such great value!!! Oooooooooo.

u are a hater. period. Rel is blessed with a talent that you dont hold. GO RUN TELL THAT.

Oh my bad. I apologize for having my own opinion. I’ll save that for the pundits who get paid to tell you how to think.

        • lette

NO ONE TELLS ME HOW TO THINK. THESE ARE SIMPLY FACTS.

Yes, those are facts. Congratulations. You somehow knew that myself, who is not a professional athlete is not as physically talented as Da’Rell Scott, who is. You also have the incredible insight of recognizing that Scott, as an athlete is very talented. And in your wisdom you managed to notice that I am hating on Da’Rell Scott because I don’t have his talent, rather than just offering my opinion as a fan of the Giants. You my friend, are a wellspring of facts that no one else seems to be able to understand. I applaud your wisdom. My apologies again. I’ll keep my useless opinions to myself, and just listen to you, oh great Lette.

It must have been fun being on the war room. I wonder if there were any heavy discussions regarding picking him up as UDFA or drafting him. I know that if you fall in love with a guy, you better just take him, because you have to compete with the rest of the league to bring him in. As a draft junky, I love measureables. The late rounds is when you take chances on guys with these types of measurable.

      • J. Williams

Yeah, i can see that. But you know, as another draft junky, I tend to bring another element into the equation. That is, I also think about what’s on the board and I judge a pick – partially – based on how he compares to other prospects. If it were me and I wanted a RB there’s a couple of other guys I would have taken.nnHowever, I wouldn’t call it a bad pick. He’s the kind of back that only takes one good block to get home and that’s always dangerous. At the same time there are couple of guys I can point to that have that same quality and can catch really well out the backfield and have less fumbling issues. I’m just saying…

Rich,nTotally agree. Born and raised a Giants fan in MD, as well as a Terps season ticket holder, I am ecstatic the Giants picked Da’Rel. ECU had a top 25 run defense, and Da’Rel absolutely torched them in the Military Bowl. One of the more memorable games in recent memory seeing live…seeing him rip off a 94 yard TD run in the 2nd half (after a 70 something TD run) was truly a thing of beauty. Great hands for a RB is also a plus, as well as a great head on his shoulders.n

With exception of Williams, who I’ve never seen nor heard about, I like ALL the day three picks. I think the Giants did well today – shame they had to un-do some of the mistakes from yesterday. Not perfect, but well done.nnWent onto two rival blogs after day-two ended yesterday. Even though opinions are all over the board on all our other picks, everybody . . . and I mean EVERYBODY was upset that the Giants didn’t take Mason Foster. Of course Tampa rubbed it in our faces 3 minutes later, but I think it was universally viewed as a missed opportunity to upgrade a position-group that has been clearly neglected by this regime.nnThis draft was entertaining, and I thought we did better than the last two years, at least on first glance. I think if you expect the draft to be “designed” according to your vision, you’re bound for disappointment.nnDay 1 – A+ (thrown “high cheese”, and we hit it out of the park as we should’ve)nDay 2 – C (risky picks, opportunity missed)nDay 2 – A – (would have been even better if Day 2 had gone differently)n——————nOverall – B+ (considering last 2 years, I’LL TAKE IT)

Thought day two brought down the giants draft one o lineman picked and took an overated mich state linebacker. If there is a sleeper in the giant draft it is going to be williams and brewer. Williams hi energy guy and will add some speed to linebacker core. spec teams were upgraded which I was real happy with since we have been so bad the last few years if not longer. Thought we could have done a better job of addressing needs. Just hope our o line can stay healthy this year if there is a year or we pick up some free agent lineman

Yes, you don’t like Jones! We got it already!

  • Ungallah

Looked good breaking one loose last night!
