Giant Surprise: OL Whimper Cut

by John Fennelly on September 4th, 2010 at 5:33 pm

Guy Whimper, who played extensively in camp and in preseason, has been released by the Giants.  It comes as a surprise to many because Whimper had moved from tackle to guard and may have had more reps there this summer than any other lineman.

The resurrection of Shawn Andrews and the organization’s view that rookie Mitch Petrus is star in waiting left them no choice but to cut ties with Whimper, who was the club’s fourth round selection in 2006.

Interesting about Petrus becoming a potential star, but at what position? Andrews and Snee are the guards for the foreseeable future? Can he play RT? Or Andrews plays LT, Diehl plays RT, Petrus and Snee are the guards?

they see Petrus as a Snee / Seubert type
