Leinart Rumors Are Just That – Rumors

by John Fennelly on September 1st, 2010 at 11:51 am

Being around the Giants for bit, now, I can tell you this…..they do not want players of questionable character anymore.  That is what Matt Leinart, former Heisman Trophy winner-turned-terrible-NFL quarterback, is.

The Giants have no reason to even consider Leinart for their roster.  Personally, I would rather have Rhett Bomar remain the backup than bring in this guy.  In fact, Bomar is a better player right now than Leinart is.

Leinart is a turnover machine who is just days away from a visit from the Turk.  The Cardinals probably plan on cutting him Saturday. They have Derek Anderson and John Skelton, who are both muuuuuch better prospects.  That is why they are dangling Leinart out there right now, hoping some sucker will make a deal for him.

Jerry Reese is smarter than that.  As Paul Schwartz of the Post tweeted this morning …“Matt Leinart to Giants? Forget it. Not gonna happen. “Discussions” were probably Cardinals calling Giants and Giants saying “No thanks.”

I think Leinart would be a good idea. The only problem that would perclude a move like this is that they G-men would have to take on his contract, which I believe is a lot heftier than a typical back-up’s salary.

He’s getting cut, so he’ll get what a free agent with no job gets. No one is stupid enough to trade for this guy….

So what is the harm in bringing him in. I do agree though. I like Bomar, and Sorgi is a tough call. I actually trust Sorgi, but Lienart is an upgrade.

character and talent….this guy has neither…no upside here…let someone else make the mistake with him…plus he has a rag arm
