The Giants hit the field on this sun-splashed afternoon at Timex, attempting to iron out the kinks on defense and get some traction on offense.
Several players returned to action after missing time: CB Terrell Thomas, LB Chase Blackburn (knee), DLs Jason Pierre-Paul and Chris Canty (groins), WR Ramses Barden and S Michael Johnson (backs), TE Travis Beckum (neck) and DJ Ware (concussion) were all practicing in some shape or form today.
CB Aaron Ross (heel), C Shaun O’Hara (ankle), LB Adrian Tracy (elbow), QB Jim Sorgi (shoulder), WR Sinorice Moss (groin) and OT Kareem McKenzie (migraines) sat out this afternoon’s practice.
OL Chris Snee was excused from practice. His wife was giving birth today…..LB Gerris Wilkinson left practice with a groin injury.
Some observations….
Ralph Vacchiano, NY Daily News
Ramses Barden is doing way more than individual drills. He’s running routes w/first team vs. scout team….
Zach Berman, The Star-Ledger
Sintim on the outside in the base, but switches with bulluck. Not much clarity on starter…..WR Sinorice Miss in Philly for second opinion. …Barden and Ware both medically cleared to play……Beckum pulls down a catch, looks like he’s getting healthier….
Patricia Traina, Inside Football
Kenny Phillips is working with first team defense……Koets at C, Whimper at LG on the first 11×11….
Alex Raskin, CBS Rapid Reports
P Matt Dodge was happy with Saturday’s performance. “The thing I liked was my mis-hits were still effective,” Dodge said. “Before, they might have been 30 yards out of bounds.” He’s still learning end-over-end punts but hopes to utilize that technique in short-field situations…..LB Phillip Dillard said he doesn’t know if the middle linebacker job is still an open competition, but he is trying to improve nonetheless. “I could get to my drops a little faster,” he said, “read passes a little better, but I’ve gotten better at that.”….
Tomorrow is the first mandatory cutdown day. Teams must trim their rosters to 75 players. Teams must reduce rosters to 53 players by Sept 4th, which is Saturday.
