New York Giants News and Notes For Aug 26
For the third straight day, it rained here in the NY Metro Area. The Giants held a midday practice on Wednesday with Eli Manning wearing a helmet!
That was the good news. It was learned that Aaron Ross has a partial tear in his plantar fascia and will be in a boot for the next 10 days or so, effectively ending his preseason.
Also sidelined were DL Chris Canty (groin), TE Travis Beckum (neck), CB Terrell Thomas (calf), and DL Jason Pierre-Paul (groin), .
WR Ramses Barden (back), LB Chase Blackburn (knee), S Michael Johnson (back) and QB Jim Sorgi are all still out as well. Sorgi believes he may be able to start practicing next week and play in the final preseason game vs the Pats.
Notes
Manning is wearing a different helmet, hopefully one that won’t come off as easy as the last one…..
“Yes. It’s just a different helmet, nothing special about it. There’s no new padding or anything. Just a little bit different helmet with a chinstrap that buttons a little different than the way I used to, just to ensure that it’s on tight.”
Barden said he hurt his back (transverse process, actually) before the game against the Jets. That is why it came as a surprise to many – it happened in practice. He is confident that he will be on the field again soon, he just doesn’t know exactly when…..
“I’m not worried. The diagnosis was good and they said there’s no nerve damage, and no threat of nerve damage as long as I take the proper precautions on the front end, which is what we’re doing right now. I’ve been staying off the field, wearing a little brace, and trying to do some extra core work. I’m trying to come back as soon as possible.”
DE Osi Umenyiora has put to rest all the talk that he is not happy in blue…
“I’m happy. I’m just happy to be around everybody, around the guys. I love this team. I love these guys, and anytime I get a chance to go out there and do what it is that I like to do, I’m happy and I’m having fun.”
