Rookie QB Shuffle: Skinner In, Randolph Out

LB Micah Johnson Also Signed to Contract

Wake Forest QB Riley Skinner became the second player to be signed by the Giants after being given a tryout at Rookie Mini Camp last weekend.  The other is LB Micah Johnson of Kentucky.

The Giants announced that Holy Cross QB Dominic Randolph was waived to make room for Skinner, who will now battle Jim Sorgi and Rhett Bomar for a roster spot to back up Eli Manning.

Johnson went undrafted because he has been bothered by a strained MCL.  He worked out at camp last week and showed the coaches enough to warrant a contract.  Watch this young man, he may be a real steal for the Giants.

Skinner, according to sources, was shocked the Giants decided to go with him instead of Randolph (I’m sure Randolph was shocked, too).

“All I ever really wanted was a chance to get a foot in the door,” Skinner, a Jacksonville native, told his hometown paper. “It’s a long shot (to go to training camp) when you just get a tryout, but everything turned out well.  I was a little shocked when I got the call. I’m really excited about it.”

Skinner’s 9,762 passing yards are a school record for the Demon Deacons. Last season, he completed 66 percent of his passes for 3,160 yards, 25 touchdowns and only 12 interceptions. (Mike Garafolo /SNY)
