McClain Will Make Pre-Draft Visit to Giants

by John Fennelly on March 30th, 2010 at 5:21 pm

Okay, all you draftniks…HE’S COMING!

Rolando McClain, the superstar linebacker from the BCS Champion Alabama Crimson Tide revealed today that he will be in New York on April 12th and will meet with the Giants.

There have been rumors that the Giants are interested, but McClain is more a fan favorite to end up a Giant than anything else.

The team is still figuring out if: a) McClain fits their defensive scheme; b) he’ll be there for them at #15 and c) can they get a player more suited to their needs in later rounds.

Either way, they will see him in person before draft day, which should help them with their decision.  Many, including myself, feel the team will go offense or secondary in the first round.

Hasn’t he already suggested that he cant and does not want to play in the giants sceme. This is very important you dont want to have a player who does not fit simply because he a good LBacker. I remember the Jets selected that DT with the 4 pick overall and that did not work out too well. Players have to be put in a situation to be successful. We need a player who can step in right away not a player who needs to learn a new system. This is the MLB position we are talking about.

Sintim doesn’t fit the Giants defense. But I hear you. They have to cover up Osi now. You don’t want to find yourself adjusting for too many tweeners.

you’re preaching to the choir on this one

“Polamalu had one interception his senior year at USC, and that was in a Pete Carroll defense,” said Mays’ agent, Gary Wichard. “But you put him with the Steelers and [defensive coordinator] Dick LeBeau, and look at what he was able to do.”

I think this quote kind of sums up what I’ve been saying about Mays and Pete Caroll’s coaching VS an NFL coaching staff’s.

McClain runs a 4.75 which means he is NOT a 3 down Linebacker.
