Read: Reese, Not all Blame on Sheridan
Although virtually everyone would love to point the proverbial finger at Bill Sheridan for last season’s lack of success on the defensive side, GM Jerry Reese is here to say that he can’t be the only scapegoat.
“It was everybody’s fault,” the Giants’ general manager said Saturday at the NFL combine. “It was my fault; maybe I brought some of the wrong players in. They had a problem transitioning. It was the players’ fault; it was everybody’s fault.”
The players Jerry speaks of are OLB Michael Boley, DL’s Chris Canty and Rocky Bernard, and safety C.C.Brown. Besides Boley, who in my opinion did contribute in a positive way when healthy, one can safely say the other three really didn’t do too much to help.
Both Canty and Bernard were either injured or playing injured throughout the whole season, and C.C. Brown…well yeah…C.C. Brown.
I like the comments from Jerry. Taking some of the brunt for a season’s lack of success is part of the general managers job. I think all us Giant fans don’t want to blame Jerry, for I think coming into the season, we were all pretty excited about these acquisitions. Unfortunately, the pieces didn’t fall in the right places.
With the uncapped free agency period on the cusp of beginning, Jerry (nor anyone else for that matter) knows how it’s going to play out. Look for the Gmen to make as many additions defensively as possible come the 2010 draft.
In other, somewhat interesting news, former D-coordinator Steve Spagnuolo had what he called a “social conversation” with Antonio Pierce. I can’t help but think that he will 100% be a Ram if he’s healthy enough to play.
