Read: Defense Not Mixin it Up

By Jon Schneider on Dec 14, 2009, 12:27 pm

What is with the Giants and letting up the big play to the Eagles? I just don’t get it. 4 plays of 60 or more yards that went for touchdowns! And still, Eli and the offense still managed to keep it close all game.

I just can’t figure out Bill Sheridan. Last week, he sends a variety of different schemes at a pretty good Dallas offense, using different packages for blitz and cover schemes. It was extremely effective.

This week, it was back to the same old Sheridan. Not once during this whole game did I see any confusion made for the Philadelphia offense. They knew what the defense was doing the whole time, and that’s why they were able to get the big play…all the time.

You certainly can’t blame yesterday on the offense. Eli had another great game, and if it wasn’t for Hakeem Nicks, he may have had 5 touchdown passes. The running game was efficient enough, and the receivers overall played pretty well.

You can’t score 38 points at home and lose. Something needs to be done about this defense scheme. The talent is way too good to be playing like this in my opinion.

I’m disappointed with yesterday’s game, I really thought we were going to win.

Apparently, so is Tom Coughlin. Here’s what he had to say after yesterday’s loss

“Disappointing loss. We worked hard, we prepared hard. I told the players, every guy wanted to do well. It didn’t work out that way for some. I was disappointed at the number of balls that were out on the ground. That is not what we preach and there we go. I think we were minus-three in turnovers and they capitalized. I don’t have the numbers in front of me, but I know they capitalized on at least one with the long touchdown on the fumble. We got the one turnover; it wasn’t enough. We were in position. We were in position. The game, we had the one point lead there, had the ball a couple times and didn’t do anything with it. They did. They came back. Then as we drove and scored again the clock became a factor there and we missed the onside opportunity. We did, rather than the last time we played, we did a decent job against the run. I think we did rush the ball, I don’t have any numbers in front of me, but I think we rushed the ball alright. The yards don’t mean a lot when you don’t win. We still have a lot to play for and that is the way it is going to be. Obviously each game is extremely important and we’ve got to get ourselves ready to go to Washington next Monday night. “

Loss was clearly not on the offense, but still bad play calling.

Giant’s first possession after Eagles score to make it 37-31 — Gilbride runs Bradshaw twice, for a gain of 1 yard. WHY? Jacobs was killing them all night, that was Jacob’s time to run. That was terrible play calling. That was the decisive possession of the game.

Our receivers can’t catch or keep their feet in bounds. Our punter can’t kick. Our special teams can’t cover.

Our defense can’t tackle or pressure.

And worst of all, our secondary might be the worst secondary in the history of the NFL. It’s actually comical how bad they are. I think I could scorch them for 6, and I’m not what one would call an athlete.
