Today, head coach Tom Coughlin and QB Eli Manning met with reporters to discuss the imminent Sunday night matchup where they’ll face the Philadelphia Eagles.
As one reporter pointed out, the Eagles have “had the Giants number” over the last three games and had asked whether or not there was a single thing consistent in their losses.
Coughlin responded “No. I’m not going to talk about the three games. I think we are well aware of the first game here this year. We gave up a lot of big plays; didn’t stop the run. And, again, I think that is where it starts for us.”
Of course, the rushing game he speaks of that was not stopped was headed by a rookie and a fullback none the less. Obviously, when a rookie and a fullback are rushing for 181 total yards, things can’t be going to well that day.
In terms of the big play, Both LeSean McCoy and Leonard Weaver broke runs of over 40 yards for touchdowns, while WR DeSean Jacskon added a 54-yard TD reception himself.
I believe the Gmen can fix this problem on Sunday. As long as they keep mixing it up like they did last week against Dallas, I don’t see any reason why the run and the big play can’t be halted. The three-headed attack of Marion Barber, Tashard Choice, and Felix Jones only managed a measly 45 rushing yards, so obviously something was working.
For this week, as John posted below, Westbrook will be available. However, don’t expect too much from him. Even when he’s been available this season, the Eagles have been somewhat reluctant to use him. Also as John pointed out, Jason Peters is injured and as of now is listed as day-to-day.
If Peters couldn’t go on Sunday, it would obviously be a blow to the Eagles running game.
Everyone knows that it starts with the run. A good rushing attack gives a team control of the clock and the pace of the game.
In the Giants 7 wins this season, in only two games did a team go over 100 yards total rushing…the Chiefs and the Cowboys.

Didn’t the Cowboys rush for over 200 yards in the Giants Week 2 win?
Bryan,
you’re completely right. Sorry for the mix-up. I made the change.
Although I was a bit off with the stat, my opinion still stays true from the post above. Control the rush, control the game. The Gmen have shown that when they stop the run, they are much more likely to win. (As most teams do as well).
