Bonehead of the Week: Major League Soccer
...posted by Rich Resch...
I’m really reaching here, but I guess this was a relatively boneheadedless week.
Having said that, I must question Major League Soccer’s decision to put their championship game opposite Sunday Night Football.
If this was another country where Soccer was Football, it wouldn’t matter what time it was on. Most people will watch what is called Football in their country over any other sport.
But this is America, where Football involves a brown, bumpy, oblong ball, and I will always be thankful for that. In this country, the sport where men kick around a black and white ball into oversized hockey nets is called “soccer.” When we won the Revolutionary war, we won the right to call our sports whatever we want. Anyone who refers to soccer as “football” is a Red Coat Apologist.
Anyway, I feel as if I am getting off topic here. The point is, when you are struggling to get viewers in the first place, why put your championship game on the same time as the most popular sport in the country? Most people missed a really great game (just like Landon Donovan missed the net in that shootout! Am I right, people?).
But then again, this is America. They would have missed it anyway.
For putting your championship game between the Los Angeles Galaxy and Really Salty Lake on at the same time as Sunday Night Football, Major League Soccer is this week’s bonehead of the week.
