Monday Morning Hangover: Week 11

The Giants did everything they could to give another home game away yesterday.

If the Falcons had won the toss in overtime, the chances are the Giants season would be basically over today.

The defense is putrid. DC Bill Sheridan’s system (whatever it is) seems to be the problem in my eyes.

There is no way a defense with this much talent should consistently be performing at such a low level.  By process of elimination, I say blame the scheme.  It’s apparent there is too much confusion, trepidation and hesitation which has led to too many late reactions.

Change this scheme up and let the team do what it does best – get after people.  There’s six weeks left – let the dogs out.

The Eagles came back and the held off the Bears last night, winning 24-20 on SNF.  Truth be told, they did not look anything like the team that beat the Giants, 40-17 a few weeks ago.

Dallas was held to seven points again yesterday. This time they won, though. Washington’s defense is playing fairly well, even though they are now 3-7.

The Giants still have play all three of these teams.  Should they win all three they will finish with a division record of 5-1.  The way things are going that appears to be unlikely……

NFL is Officially an Air Game

After watching the first 11 weeks this season it’s obvious the game is changing right before our eyes.

A solid rushing game and a stingy defense had been the recipe for championships.  With the Rules Committee altering the way teams play defense by installing measures that hinders defenses, games are being won with passing.

The NFL’s top four rushing teams, the Jets, Titans, Dolphins and Panthers are all either .500 or below.

Bill Cowher said it first. “Teams are now passing to open up the running game.”

This is good news, in a way, for the Giants since they have one of the game’s best passing attacks.
