Read: Giants Hold On, Cowboys Squeeze By, SNF
42 days since the last New York Giants win. Noah coulda got on his arc while God destroyed the world and came back off after 40 days, and still the Giants would be winless.
However instead of a sixth straight loss, the Giants got a win…and a much needed one at that. Despite letting two touchdowns in the last 6:07 of the game to put the game into overtime, the Giants and Lawrence Tynes were still able to hold on in OT where Tynes booted a 36-yarder on their first possession.
Game Ball: Although they let up 31 points, the game ball still has to go to a defensive player. That being Michael Boley. Boley had 13 total tackles on the game, in which 11 were solo. He also had a sack, 2 tackles for loss, and 2 QB hits. Overall, he was around the ball all game and just really seemed to possess the heart and energy MLB Antonio Pierce would usually bring to the field.
On a side note, I don’t want to count my chickens here, but it does seem as TE Kevin Boss is really gaining more and more of a knack for catching the ball in the end zone. This was his third straight game with at least one TD after not catching one through the first 7 weeks.
Washington-Dallas
Well, this was an ugly game if i’ve ever seen one. Going into this game, Washington was coming off a pretty impressive win against Atlanta whereas Dallas was coming off somewhat of a disappointing loss to the Packers. After lighting up opposing defenses over the four games previous, the Cowboys offense looked somewhat befuddled. Against the Redskins it wasn’t much different.
QB Tony Romo may be hitting his somewhat routine mid-to-late season slump as for the second straight week he had a QB rating under 80. Fortunately for him (and the Cowboys) he was able to sneak this game out against the Redskins with a late TD to WR Patrick Crayton.
And, oh, by the way, more Washington Redskins got injured today. OL Chad Rinehart looks to be out for the season and RB Ladell Betts is awaiting an MRI on his left knee to determine the extent of ligament damage.
On to SNF…
Tonight will feature a game between the Chicago Bears, who need a win to stay in the playoff conversation, hosting the Philadelphia Eagles. Most of us already know RB Brian Westbrook is out for tonight’s game, which at this point, I’m not so sure how much of a difference he would make anyway. Starting in his place is rook LeSean McCoy who had been pretty steady filling in.
The Eagles will most likely heavily lean on Donovan McNabb, DeSean Jackson, and the passing attack. Look for McNabb and Cutler to each throw the ball a lot as I expect this game to be somewhat high scoring.
Why you say? Well…first of all Cutler seems to always rebound pretty nicely after having a disappointing week. (See last Thursday). Also, who’s Cutler’s favorite and most reliable target? TE Greg Olsen.
As I wrote earlier int he week, the Birds are trying their 7th different LB at the MLB position to try and solve their ineptitude to stop the TE of the opposing team. Mays, who was originally given the job after Stewart Bradley was injured, lost the job before the season even started.
Therefore, don’t expect him to be too successful.
My prediction. 34-24 Bears.
