Injuries, Schedule Have Atlanta Slumping
The Giants have lost four in a row and fans are getting nervous. Will we shape up and make the playoffs? Or will this season just continue to spiral right down the toilet?
The chances of making the playoffs seem more likely as each day passes. The upcoming opponents are all struggling contenders with issues, too. All the Giants have to do now is shape up.
They’ll get some help this week from the hobbled Falcons, who will be missing several key players. RB Michael Turner, the centerpiece to the Atlanta offense, will miss Sunday’s game with an ankle injury. His backup, Jerious Norwood, is also injured and may not play.
WR Roddy White, a Pro Bowler last season, is limping around with a sore knee and may be limited come Sunday. All of this has put more pressure on second-year QB Matt Ryan, who has begun to show some cracks in his usual steely composure.
Ryan has thrown 12 INTs already this year, one more than he did in 16 games last season. The troubling stat is that 10 of those have come in the last five games, of which the Falcons lost three of. Their only wins were against Washington and Chicago, two pretenders.
That leads us to the schedule. In 2008, the Falcons benefited from a last place schedule. This year. they play a second-place schedule. Last year they played the NFC North and AFC West. This year they play the NFC and AFC Eastern Divisions.
