Dallas, Philly Losses Give Giants Back Some Momentum
One of the most fun things to be during football season is a writer. It’s also one of the most frustrating.
Each week brings new circumstances, ones that seemed improbable only the week before. That is how the NFC East has been going thus far this season and probably how it will continue.
Last week, the Giants handed the San Diego Chargers a victory and all of us brilliant pundits began to play the exit music. Little did we know that on this slow Sunday afternoon the Giants’ main rivals would squander the leverage the Giants have so generously been forking over the past month.
As of tonight, the Giants are still in third place in the NFC East, but are tied with the Eagles record-wise at 5-4 and only one game behind the 6-3 Cowboys, who were inexplicably almost shut out in Green Bay.
That makes the most important games the ones ahead, not the ones behind. If you are the Giants, this week off may have a silver lining after all.
It is very possible that what I wrote about the NFC East may not come to pass. With lots of head-to-head action still to transpire, one team – one hot team – could run the table and win the division. The others could be sent home in a box.
After watching today’s action, maybe its the Eagles’ turn to lay an egg, or the Cowboys’ turn to ride low in the saddle. Maybe the Giants needed a week off to recharge their batteries and will come out firing on all cylinders for the last seven games.
They’ve done it before, and with less talent, too. This could be the start of something. In the NFL, anything is possible, so why not us…?

Our best weekend in a long time. Hope we take advantage of it.
