Tom Coughlin labeled this game a “one game playoff,” and then a funny thing happened in the 4th quarter, the coaches (Gilbride? Coughlin?) called a game “not to lose” rather then going for the win….IN A ONE GAME PLAYOFF? REALLY? After a Terrell Thomas interception the Giants had 1st and goal from the 5 but were pushed back on a holding penalty by Chris Snee (the Giants were devastated by penalties 9 for 104 yards, but the Snee penalty may have been the worst of them all). On the next 3 plays the Giants went conservative and called a slip screen, and then 2 draws. A touchdown would have made it a 2 possession game for San Diego with under 3 minutes to play, an almost insurmountable lead. Coughlin and Gilbride will certainly have some splainin to do.
On another note it seems as if the Giants have become absolutely terrified of every return man in the league. I realize Darren Sproles is dangerous but the Giants, for 4 straight weeks, have attempted to kick away from return men and given up horrible field position as a result. I realize this is a Feagles specialty but Tynes got in on the act and at times it was not pretty, including a 29 yarder for Feagles and a kick off fielded at the 20 by Tynes. The worst of the special teams gaffe’s came on a missed field goal inside 4o yards on the opening drive. Phil Simms kept saying he did not see why Tynes didn’t attempt the kick, but to me it seemed as though the ball was flat on the ground as he got to the ball.
A devastating loss to say the least, but like Andy Dufrain, I hope.

Yea I hope to…..I hope we figure it out over our much needed Bye Week and start playing like the team we all know they are….
