Read: Around the NFC East

philadelphia-eagles-logo1Philadelphia Eagles: The Philadelphia Eagles have been playing well, but one problem they still have is stopping the TE position. Even against the Giants, whom they dramatically embarrassed, the Eagles still seemed to let the TE position work against them. Although the Gmen sputtered, Kevin Boss still managed to have a pretty nice game gaining 70 yards and scoring a TD.

To possibly fix the problem, the birds are officially replacing rook safety Macho Harris with veteran Sean Jones at free safety. Last year they were having the same problem when about halfway through the season, they delegated Quintin Mikell and Akeem Jordan to play more TE coverage.

In the last four games, opposing TE’s are averaging 102.7 receiving yards a game and have caught 5 TD’s.

Washington Redskins: Another day and yet another setback for the Washington Redskins. As if  having an invisible offensive line and no Chris Cooley wasn’t enough, now the ‘Skins’ punter is sidelined. Hunter Smith, who punted for the Indianapolis Colts for 10 years without getting injured, could washingtonredskinsnot go in practice and will not play Sunday against the Falcons.

Coach Jim Zorn said the Redskins will sign former Cowboy punter Sam Paulescu to take his place and cut either DE Renaldo Wynn or RB Quinton Ganther.

Dallas Cowboys: Unlike the Eagles, the Dallas Cowboys may have found their device for stopping opposing TE’s. His name is Bobby Carpenter, and as of late, the Buckeye alum has been playing well.

Once thought to be somewhat of a bust playing in his fourth year, Carpenter and the ‘Boys may have finally found his role in their defense…covering cowboysopposing TE’s. In Dallas’ last two games since the bye, Carpenter has recorded 9 tackles and a sack, and has a large role in bottling up two of the better TE’s in the league in Tony Gonzalez and John Carlson.

The two combined for just seven catches in the Cowboys’ last two games.

I’m excited for this one. The Cowboys seem to be churning on all cylinders right now and although the Eagles are coming off a blowout win, I’m not sure I see them winning this game.

A lot of times in football, it’s the game after the blowout victory that is hardest to win. Players and coaches alike go into practice that week feeling good about themselves and may subconsciously not work as hard at getting better. Now, I’m not saying the Eagles have a bad work ethic, but they have to be feeling pretty good about themselves right now.

Oh yeah…the Cowboys did have a blowout of their own last week too…who knows what will happen in this one.
