According to ESPN’s Power Rankings, the New York Giants are the 15th best team in football right now. They dropped from a ranking of eight after a dismal and embarrassing performance against the division rival Philadelphia Eagles.
With today being Wednesday, all the Gmen could do is forget about last weeks (the last three weeks for that matter) and look towards this Sunday where the San Diego Chargers will be coming into North Jersey.
The Chargers, according to ESPN are also a middle of the pack team ranking just below the Giants at 16, but don’t be fooled. They’re coming off two straight wins and have possibly regained the LT of old for at least a few games.
What makes me specifically nervous about this game is the Chargers passing attack against the Giants secondary. It’s no secret, the Giants secondary is young, inexperienced, and they make mistakes. With Gates and emerging star WR Vincent Jackson leading the attack, I’m a bit nervous the secondary won’t be able to handle the pressure.
I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again. The leaders of this football team need to step up and take care of what they have to do. Osi, Tuck, and the defensive line have to start to get more pressure on the quarterback, whether it’s straight up sacks, or just hurries and knockdowns. They need to take as much pressure off this secondary as possible.
And on offense, Eli has to get it going. I don’t think there’s much else to say there.
It really doesn’t get any better for the Giants after this Sunday. After the Chargers, the Giants host Atlanta and then travel to Denver on a short week for a Thursday nighter. Then, it’s back to the divisional matchups facing all three in a row.
The Giants need to end this losing streak this weekend. No doubt.

The giants need to hire anyone from the Dick LeBeau coaching tree, much like they did from the Jim Johnson coaching tree (Spags), to come run this team.
