Two of the three undefeated heavyweights of the NFC face off this afternoon in the New Orleans Superdome.

When the Giants have the ball…….

The Giants are ranked second in total offense in the NFL averaging 30.2 points and 417 total yards per game.  The Saints’ defense is ranked 6th in the NFL allowing 16.5 points and 295 yards per game.

New York is the league’s top team in time of possession and will try to establish the run early, drive the football and limit the offensive possessions and opportunities of Drew Brees.

If that does not work. expect Eli Manning to explore options through the air. He is wary of the presence of his nemesis, Darren Sharper. so if he gets duped – shame on him.

Should the Giants get behind, Manning will operate out of the no-huddle, where he has precision-like success.

When the Saints have the ball……..

Drew Brees is arguably the game’s best player.  The Saints lead the league in points per game and are third behind the Giants in yards per game.

The Giants own the NFL’s top-ranked defense, allowing only 210 yards per game while yielding an average of only 14 points per game.

Look for the Saints to shift Brees’ launch point to avert the pressure the Giants will bring with their front seven.  The Giants’ have an unheralded secondary with lots to prove, so they may dupe Brees into a mistake or two.

New Orleans is averaging 5.0 yards per carry on the ground, but they are more prone to try to throw against this Giants defense. They are a team that can strike quickly through the air.  Against the Eagles three weeks ago, they racked up 48 points while running 10 less plays than Philadelphia.

I’m a little concerned with this game. The Giants are ranked near the top of almost every experts power rankings, but they haven’t proved anything this season based on who they have played. They have 5 wins, but the teams they have beaten have a combined 6 wins, 4 of those wins coming from the SAME teams that the Giants have played. The other 2 wins coming from the Cowboys beating the Panthers (1 total win), and the Redskins beating the Rams (no wins).

I guess I am saying that this will be the Giants first true test. The Redskins and Cowboys were overrated when we beat them, and the Bucs, Chiefs, and Raiders just plain suck.
