Michael Boley to miss 8-10 weeks

by David Jacks on June 26th, 2009 at 1:39 am

According to Ralph Vacchiano, Michael Boley will be out 8-10 weeks after undergoing surgery to repair injjurya torn hip flexor.

This puts Boley out for all of training camp, which most likely keeps him out of the opener and perhaps even longer. If Boley can’t practice it will be tough for him to pick up a new defense, and have a new coordinator adjust to him. Realistically it may take at least 8 games before Boley can get on the field AND feel comfortable in the defense. Giant fans have to give Boley at least 6-8 games before starting to evaluate this aquisition.

Boley was one of  three major free agent aquisitions, so this is a hit, but it also allows players like Gerris Wilkinson and Bryan Kehl to continue to develop (perhaps the last chance for Gerris). Still, with this loss, the line-backing core continues to be the weakest unit on the D….with 700 hundred defensive lineman and an improved secondary it may not matter.

Not good news at all. Was hoping Boley would take coverage pressure off of Pierce…

I know Kiwi is a DE and rightfully so, but I wonder if he’ll play a little LB now.

Any word on how Boley hurt himself?
