Here’s what pundits are saying about the picks made around the NFC East.
Eagles
Matt Mosley at ESPN thinks the Eagles have put together an offensive powerhouse with their picks on Saturday.
On Saturday, the Eagles continued an offensive overhaul that could give them one of the most explosive units in football. Maybe McNabb’s reported demands have paid off, because in one week’s time, the Eagles have added an elite left tackle, another dynamic wide receiver and a legitimate backup (and someday replacement) for Brian Westbrook. Fans and local writers had put out an edict that the Eagles had to take a running back in the first round — especially after the No. 28 pick was shipped to Buffalo.
The days bounty: Jeremy Maclin, WR from Missouri (19th overall), and LeSean McCoy, RB from Pittsburgh (53rd overall). Philadelphia traded the 2009 first-round selection it acquired from Carolina (28th overall), its 2009 fourth-round selection (121st overall), and its 2010 sixth-round selection to Buffalo for OT Jason Peters.
Cowboys
The Cowboys did nothing in the first two rounds, except trade their 51st pick to the Bills, who used it to take Andy Levitre, guard from Oregon State. In return the Cowboys received a third round pick (75th overall) and a fourth round pick (110th overall.)
The days bounty: nada, zilch, nothing
Redskins
The ‘Skins got their guy at #13, Brain Orakpo, defensive end from Texas. They didn’t waste a second to call his name when their turn came around. Here’s Matt Mosley again on the pick:
In Orakpo, you get an absolute beast coming off the edge. I watched him in person at least six times over the past three years, and he could take over football games. With Albert Haynesworth playing inside, there’s no reason in the world why Orakpo can’t have 10 sacks his rookie season. I know he wanted to go before this point, but it’s actually a great fit for Washington.
The days bounty: Brian Orakpo, defensive end from Texas (#13th pick)
I’ll do a full analysis of the Giants picks in a moment, but right now it looks like the Eagles made the biggest impact in the NFC East on Saturday. They’re going to give the Giants a run for their money this year as McNabb will have a full arsenal of weapons to play with.
