Jacobs Prefers Giants Draft A Receiver

by Anthony De Rosa on April 24th, 2009 at 4:48 pm

Brandon Jacobs was “hurt” when they Giants released Plaxico Burress and hope they get a new receiver via the draft, not by trade for Anquan Boldin or Braylon Edwards. Jenny Vrentas at the Star Ledger quotes Jacobs:

“A lot of things come in with an older guy,” Jacobs said. “I’d just rather get a younger guy and have him develop because there are a lot of good receivers out there, a lot of big rangy guys that have downfield speed.”

“I love Braylon, I think Braylon is a great player, and I think Braylon would be a great addition to our team,” Jacobs added later. “I’m just in favor of the younger guy. He’s your guy coming in, he doesn’t have a lot of miles on him … he’s eager to listen and learn. That’s just what I’d rather have.”

I like his enthusiasm for the younger players, but is this only because he doesn’t want someone else on the offense stealing the spotlight? I love the young guys too, but is a first round pick really going to help Eli (this year) as much as a solid veteran?…. Doubtful…
